We stayed one night in Wals in Landhaus Grunau hotel. The lady at reception recommended a restaurant which is just few hundred meters away - Grunauer Hof. It turned out to be belonging to the same family and we were afraid that this was a biased recommendation. Nevertheless we went there and were far from being disappointed. The food was... More

just a little outside Salzburg but you should get there. Real hidden treasure with high quality food, excellent service and a variety of dining areas. In addition to the standard dishes you could also sample some old fashioned meals such as black pudding, lung and heart stew, home made sausages. Just be brave and try them.

We ate dinner at the Grunauer Hof Restaurant two different times during our three-day stay in Wals. On both visits, we were impressed primarily with the friendly relaxed atmosphere but no less with the delicious food. The regular menu is extensive, and they also have seasonal special menu items. On the menu, there are many Austrian specialties. The food is... More

There is a iron company next to the hotel. They start to work at 5 in the morning everyday. Impossible to sleep. There are better places to stay in salzburg.

A little tricky to find, especially from the DE side but you will be rewarded by a restaurant that is dually frequented by the locals and held in high esteem. It is decorated with authenticity given to every detail from the tiled warming stoves to the carvings in the wood furniture/moldings to the marble staircases leading to the WC. It... More

Nice and big restaurant with friendly staff. Also prepared for hosting children. Lot of local people, huge amount of food in average quality. Good price/value.

We traveled by car northboud from Croatia to Belgium and got really hungry approaching Salzburg. We were absolutely craving for some "echt" Austrian food and were laughing about the poor food choices at the last rest area before the German border driving northbound. Thankfully - there are smart phones and tripadvisor app that quickly helped us find Gruenauer Hof. Only... More

We went there one night in March 2013. The restaurant itself is huge and can feel too big, but the food and the service was really good.

We have been here on a number of occassions over a number of years - and have never been disappointed. Good Austrian cooking complemented by Austrian wine and beer. The 20 minute taxi journey from Salzburg was well worth it - yet again. The variety of dining areas are all in attractive traditional design with area outside in summer.

We asked our waiter to recommend a dish and we got the meat platter for 2. It was huge and so delicious! Certainly 4 could have eaten and still had some left. The meat was tender and tasty, the vegetables were also. We did not bother touching the fries as there was just too much else to pick from. Great... More
