We have often travelled through Freeport on our way to hike on Briar Island, NS. Freeport is a very lovely spot but our timing often meant we had no time to stop at Lavena's Catch Café. A friend told me about this wonderful restaurant and that Chef Lynn Crawford (one of my favorite chefs) had... read more

Good food and beverages. Great pool for information. Very nice staff. Have been here ten years ago and it's still so good to be here. Very easy to get in touch with the locals and to exchange news with other tourists.

My husband & I took a day trip to Freeport as we enjoy being able to stop and sit on the rocks gazing out to the ocean. We decided to stop for lunch at Lavena's after meeting Lavena during the summer at a local shop in our home town. This was our first time there. We had a delicious scallop... More

The restaurant was recommended to us by a local woman. We stopped in before catching the Ferry to Brier Island. It was dinner time and the restaurant was very busy but we were still seated and served in a timely and friendly manner. The scallops were the best I've ever tasted. Value was great for quality and portion size served... More

This restaurant served us a big, tasty meal and took our orders before opening for lunch so we'd be on time for our ferry. Big friendly crowd at this restaurant, and great service. But - dial-up internet access means slower credit & debit...be patient...or bring cash.

A short stay on Brier Island led us to Lavena's. The restaurant was recommended to us by a local. We hopped the ferry to the yellow house across the way. We had called for reservations. The meal was so delicious and just what we wanted. Based on reviews, I started with a cup of chowder and biscuit. The server (daughter... More

The seafood chowder was wonderful. It was scallops and haddock. There were more scallops in the chowder than I've ever seen at any other place that I've eaten. I had a job to finish the chowder as it was so hearty and full of potatos, scallops and haddock. I give it an A+. The waitresses are on the ball and... More

This little restaurant, recommended to us by fellow travellers, is just fantastic! The menu is somewhat dictated by what comes off the boat that day; the seafood is as fresh as you can get. My haddock/Digby scallop chowder and my husband's baked haddock dinner have spoiled us for any seafood we can get at home. This is a family restaurant,... More

Four visits this summer and I can't wait to go back. Friendly staff, delicious food, great view of Grand Passage and a down-to-Earth atmosphere that is hard to beat.
