TOPES restaurant is a modern British restaurant centrally located in Rochester High Street in Kent and has been awarded two AA rosettes. Chris Small, head chef and co-owner, has created several different menus, including a special set price lunch (L15 for 2 courses and coffee) and mid-week evening menu (3 courses for L20.50). In addition, there is an a la carte menu for Friday and Sunday evenings and traditional roasts on Sunday. All ingredients are bought in fresh on a daily basis from local suppliers and the menus reflect seasonal produce. The restaurant is set in a 15th, 16th and 17th Century building and many of the original features remain. However, the restaurant has a modern feel to it to reflect the modern style of dishes on offer.

I visited with my sister and daughter in January for lunch. Our seat was next to the fire which we thought would be so cosy, but there was no heat coming from it although it looked the part we all felt very cold. This spoilt our visit. Having said that we thoroughly the food and the service was very good.

We managed to get a table on a busy Sunday lunchtime and were very impressed with the whole experience. The greeting and service from the staff was excellent as was the food. The menu was reasonably priced and the portion sizes were good. Nothing negative to say in fact!

We have been to topes on many occasions with the last time being on the 3rd January for a birthday treat. As always great food and a very enjoyable evening for both my husband and I. We will be going again soon with friends to celebrate my husband's birthday and I hope they have the lamb with the little shepherds... More

We went there for a birthday dinner and loved it there! The quirky old building created a nice atmosphere and so did the lovely service. The food was amazing, the pigeon starter exquisite, did want my duck main pink but I wasn't offered however I didn't mind-it was delicious! The creme brûlée that we ordered seemed a bit too simple-in... More

I visited at the end of January with family for my birthday. We had quite a varied selection from the menu between us and could not fault any of the dishes. I had the scallop starter, which is one of my all time favourites anyway, and it was delicious. For mains, my fiancé had the beef and the cheek was... More

Tasteful decor, service with a smile and delicious plate of food. Couldn't fault anything even if I tried. Starter and a main course left no room for dessert so I have something to look forward to on my next visit.

We are very frequent visitors and thoroughly recommend this very enjoyable place. I would like to see a slight change in the menu. Perhaps we did not leave enough time between visits!

We came for my birthday and had a fantastic meal. Excellent attentive service, lovely table and fantastic food, we also had a vegan with us and they had accommodated her superbly. Would recommend to anyone for a fabulous meal.
