Description: TOPES restaurant is a modern British restaurant centrally located in...
TOPES restaurant is a modern British restaurant centrally located in Rochester High Street in Kent and has been awarded two AA rosettes. Chris Small, head chef and co-owner, has created several different menus, including a special set price lunch (L15 for 2 courses and coffee) and mid-week evening menu (3 courses for L20.50). In addition, there is an a la carte menu for Friday and Sunday evenings and traditional roasts on Sunday. All ingredients are bought in fresh on a daily basis from local suppliers and the menus reflect seasonal produce. The restaurant is set in a 15th, 16th and 17th Century building and many of the original features remain. However, the restaurant has a modern feel to it to reflect the modern style of dishes on offer.

Lovely food, only gripe is the toilet, the door is in the restaurant, 1 door in and there is the toilet so anyone outside near the door can hear the flushing and any other noises - I suffer with a bowl condition and would not be returning because of the toilet location but apart from that I really enjoyed my... We live in Kent but had never been to Rochester before. A surprise day off gave us the opportunity to check it out. Low expectations (it's in a pretty grotty area of Kent) were reinforced by the drive through the outlying towns. Our first clue that we might be on to a winner was a sign in a shop window... More

Booked quite last minute for our daughters (belated)birthday lunch. Luckily we could be fitted in. We were a party of three adults and a 9 year old child. We had the mackerel and beetroot starters. We asked for some bread and that was supplied very quickly. Our mains were the plaice with clams, battered cod, guinea fowl and lamb. All... More

Lunch at Topes again was excellent again and the braised beef cheek starter was unctuous and delicious, much more than I expected.. Highly recommended. Beer battered cod - to try the smoked fish ball- an excellent choice for lunch Good craft beers, a decent Malbec and some good puds rounded off a splendid leisurely lunch before stepping out into the... Lovely intimate place, however very quiet and small upstairs, I could hear everyone else's conversations clearly, so was scared of having a private conversation with my partner. Stairs were also veryyyy steep, caught my heels a few times too so be careful. Portions small but delicious. The waitress was so helpful getting us a taxi afterwards too

Booked this restaurant for my wife's birthday based on recommendations on TripAdvisor and was not dissapointed. This quaint Dickensian restaurant offers a variety of menus throughout the day. We took advantage of the three courses for £25 evening menu and enjoyed food of high quality served by a first class group of waitresses who were attentive yet not overbearing. The... More

Once again, we had an absolutely wonderful meal (mid-week, although every time sitting is excellent) at Topes (our favourite restaurant in Rochester). Food, wine and service were superb and of excellent value! Michael and Shiralee Keane

My husband and I ate at Topes during the weekend and had a beautifully tasting meal. The food was cooked to perfection and all served friendly and professional. The restaurant had a classy and friendly atmosphere. A certain recommendation for anyone requiring fine tasking food.
