Delicious food

We came for dinner, after o long day of sightseeing and driving around Tuscany. It is not a big restaurant, with a cozy atmosphere. Service was very friendly and warmhearted. The antipasti were average, but the polenta with boar was superb. My wife ordered a dish with meat by accident, the staff... read more

We had dinner at the Osteria di Porta al Cassero during our recent trip to Italy. It is a smallish restaurant in the heart of Montalcino serving traditional food. The service was fast and friendly and in no time we were drinking their house red wine which was fantastic. We had the salami appetizer to start our meal followed by... More

A busy lunch session was ending when we turned up, but we still got a table for 3. We ordered quickly. The wine (Biondi-Santi Rosso di Montalcino 2011) was slightly corked, and to our server's credit she readily agreed and returned with another bottle. The food (bruschette and a wild boar and bean stew) was well prepared. One tip, avoid... More

Stopped here for lunch while shopping for wine in Montalcino. Very warm welcome on a cold and rainy day. Excellent Tuscan antipasti and tasty soups. One nice plus is the osteria's offering of local Brunello by the glass. For a very reasonable seven euros per glass, they serve a selection of Brunellos, tagging the bottom so customers will know where... More

Tucked in between two streets that lead to the Fortezza is this very atmospheric restaurant. We started with the Tuscany antipasto and then I had the wild boar & polenta which was absolutely delicious and my husband had pasta with sauce which he said was very good. Also tasted the wonderful brunello wines for which Montalcino is famous - can... More

Menu was all in Italian but that was part of the fun! Spotted "lingua" and thought, yay! tongue! It was delicious. The rest of my part had bruschetta, which was nice and garlicky.

This place looks like you went back in time for 40 years, which is great. You can't taste traditional local food, which isn't available in many places. Food is great. Staff is nice and friendly

This was our first stop in Montalcino. We decided to have lunch. We walked in and said two, and were seated. A half hour later we were given a menu. I got the feeling we were Americans and didn't count. We finally called the waitress and she forgot we were sitting right next to the bar. We finally ordered and... More

Their menu is small and not much English is spoken but the food is very good. It is a nice casual family place with the father, mother, daughter and sometimes 5 year old granddaughter there. Their pinci with sugo or with garlic tomato sauce are excellent. I'm also a fan of their Zuppa di Pane. The scottiglia (wild boar stew)... More
