14 of us stopped for lunch during a day of vineyard tours in the Montalcino region, great atmosphere, food, service. Host and chef were excellent, we enjoyed a 2 hour luncheon we will remember for years.

As with other reviewers, we have been coming here for many years. But this time the service was poor, from a non-existent welcome from a disinterested waitress to a reluctance to give us a larger table when requested. Reason given - they were set for 4 and we were 2. But no one came to sit there anyway. Food pretty... More

It was lunchtime and we saw the sign to Taverna dei Barbi by the road, not knowing really what to expect. It was certainly a marvellous experience. The dishes were meticulously decorated, the meat was of a fabulous quality and very tasty, and the wine superb. From our experience, the "taverna" is not really a taverna, but a high standards... Need some lunch before doing a wine tasting well this is the perfect place to do it. The outside seating is very authentic for the surroundings and gives you the experience you are looking for in Brunello country. Enjoy the food and wine.

We love this restaurant. Been eating here for 10 years thru at least two managements. Always hits the mark for us. Don't understand why not rated higher. Vegetable flan. Beef with Brunello sauce. Pastas. Their excellent Brunello at good price. Take time for a tasting before eating.

We didn’t plan to go there (although it was highly recommended by the tourist guide books) until the hired car’s driver told us that it was one of the must-go restaurants in that area. The restaurant was surrounded by a lot of greens. A wine cellar located just next to the restaurant. Good food, good service and perfect environment. After... More

We were referred by our B&B to this restaurant as quite honestly we were looking for something different to the "typical italian" we had been experiencing in Montalcino (coupled with the fact my wife is pesco-vegetarian and was hanging out for some fish) and Taverna dei Barbi did not disappoint!! The service was amazing, we had a specific wine waiter... More

The restaurant is in a very nice place, in the middle of vineyards. But there is no view to the vineyards and the food is average, nothing special. We tried to go to Poggio Antico ( another restaurant recomended by a lot of friends) but it was closed. I wouldnt come back to this restaurant, and would not recommend.

We had an appointment for a wine visit/tour with Samuele and then a reservation for lunch at la Taverna. We were very late and arrived ( late) for our lunch reservation. We were very sorry to miss our tour. Samuele welcomed us and invited us to have our lunch and followed by the tour . There was no problem and... More

Located in the countryside between Montalcino, home of the famous Brunello wines, and Sant'Antimo, the wonderful Romanesque church and monastery built by Charlemagne in the 9th century, this restaurant is part of a wine estate. The location is charming and the atmosphere is very appealing. Wine flows freely (but not free) here. The food is what I would describe as... More
