Good food, but the pasta is a bit too salty. It's in a hidden part of Montalcino and easily accessible from the main sights.

Tuscan food at it's best! Generous portions carefully prepared, incredible wine list, busy busy waiter/owner/host - who was a lot of fun and had great suggestions! Dessert was incredible as you can tell by other photos. This place was recommended by our Tour Guide who was a local man, and he never led us wrong! We raved about food when... More

I went with my fiancé, we both loved. Antonio makes the difference. Good quality food and wine. A nice place to have dinner in Montalcino!

Our hotel owner recommended Re di Macchia and my group of 7 liked it so well we went there both nights of our stay in town. Nice selection of food and wine - we let Antonio pick our wine and it was perfect. Although the restaurant was full and it seemed that Roberta was the only waitstaff, we never felt... More

We were greeted by our host Antonnio who upon hearing it was our anniversary gave us a nice bottle of sparkling wine. We chose the fixed price four course meal which was a great decision. The appetizer included two pates that were delicious (and I don't normally like liver). The pasta dish was a mushroom lasagna that was truly unique... More

I visited much of Tuscany, and the Re di Macchia was absolutely the best part. Great food, center location, friendly personnel, reasonable price. I celebrated my 50th birthday there and I could not have imagined anything better

We had confirmed reservations via email but host seemed to not know about them. We were seated in their small dining room in any case by host. My husband and mother-in-law had eggplant parmisan which tasted good but was still cold in center. I had chingiale ragu which was fine. Had bottle of red wine recommended by host that was... More

Had dinner at this restaurant on the Friday of Ferragosto. Arrived without reservations and was seated immediately, despite all the warnings from the "experts" that reservations are absoluely needed in Montalcino during the Holiday week-end. Other diners also arrived and were seated without reservations. What was most striking was the ease and relaxed manner of the owner/host, Antonnio. Unlike other... More

This restaurant has one of the finest chefs in the area. The food is local Tuscan with a creative touch. Favorite is the rabbit salad. A reservation is essential for dinner, but sometimes not for lunch.
