one of the best dinners ever

The dinner we had at the Re di Macchia was fit for a king. The pairing of food and wine offered by the restaurant can only be described as a symphony with an unparalleled attention to detail in flavors and presentation. The friendliness of the owners of this delightful place cannot be matched. I've... read more

We made reservations at the suggestion of our hotel (Borgo Canalicchio Di Sopra Relais) for my birthday dinner while in Montalcino. It is an amazing quaint restauratn run by a couple Antonio (he serves) and Roberta (she cooks). The atmosphere is warm and romantic, as was clear that everyone visiting was in a couple. We started with an amazing 2008... More

This restaurant came highly recommended by our wine tasting guide and we just couldn't fault it! We made a reservation for the two of us, plus our baby girl and they were more than ready for us. They had the high chair set up and even had a baby pasta dish prepared for her! It was small pasta stars in... More

My wife and I had such an enjoyable lunch here that we returned two days later for a second lunch. This is a small place with good, friendly service that serves interesting, excellent food for a fair price. The wine list is excellent. Warning: the "vegetarian menu" is huge and so tasty that you'll want to eat all of it... More

My husband and I enjoyed dinner at this small restaurant on our last night in Montalcino. I was looking for a good steak and found the Tuscan equivalent of the perfect steak here. Antonio only serves Brunello wine and we asked him to select for us. That, too, was excellent. Our lovely dinner was finished with a tiramisu that was... More

After a long day of wine tasting in Montalcino, we were looking for a comfy dinner spot. Re di Macchia ended up being perfect. I had the smaller steak (not the bistecca alla fiorentina) and it was delicious (without being too large). Our waiter was fantastic - friendly, engaging, and making sure we had a great time. That is why... More

The husband and wife team of Antonio (sommelier and server) and Roberta (chef) provided my wife and I with a delicious and warmly personal dining experience. The menu, though unstated, was clearly designed, appropriately, to showcase the wonderful Tuscan wines. A truffled lasagne, a pasta with fresh porcini, and wine-braised beef were all outstanding. The 2009 Brunello from a small... More

Sandro at Hotel Vecchia Oliviera made reservations at Re di Macchia for my B-Day dinner celebration. The owner and his wife, the cook run the restaurant; need reservations as it is a small but excellent restaurant. The food is out of this world! We had two desserts and they were heavenly!

It was simply a magical night. Antonio was simply perfect and Roberta cooks with such perfection that we had one of the most special night of our lives. Just go there.

Having spent our previous 3 days treking to the location, we were looking for a meal that was tasty and substantial. This restaurant did not disappoint. We each had a set menu - both the vegetarian and meat dishes were excellent. Each meal was carefully prepared and presented. Having traveled through various parts of Italy on our travels, we would...
