Good for friendly meat lovers

Our party of 11 car buffs on tour had a very enjoyable meal here 2 weeks ago. We wandered in here on our first night in Monteuil Sur Mer. We hadn't booked and they were busy. But they found us a table outside, which with a drink was very pleasant. Service was quite good though we though the food only average. We will try it again on our next visit to this nice walled town.

Just off the main square housed in an old mill Froggy's Tavern shares a heritage with the much vaunted Auberge de la Grenouillere just out of town. For us it was spot on...good steaks and interesting servings seated on wooden benches giving it an individual appeal and a good counterpoint to Michelin stuffiness and the local inevitability of fish.

Bad start with aperitifs. Pastis served in warm glass with no ice and lukewarm tap water. Ugh. Partner's Martini barely covered the bottom of the glass. Starter salad was supposed to be foie gras but the slight sliver was well hidden with (well dressed) leaf and not much else. Partner's avocado and prawns was fine. My main course was supposed... Here in France for 3 days of golf whilst our wives went sightseeing in the local area. Great restaurant and the waitresses were very helpful and helped us translate the menu. Great food and well worth a visit, reasonably priced as well. Recommend you book

Given its pedigree (Alexandre Gauthier), Froggy's ought to be five-star. And given the formula - spit-roast meat - it ought to be packed with locals day in and day out. But it isn't. And the reason is plain to see. On our visit for dinner, a brace of quail and a half shoulder of lamb were gently roasting on the... More

We saw the other recommendations on Trip Advisor and wanted to try it. We didn't make a booking but arrived at 7pm when they open on Friday night and were the first to arrive. They found us a table without any problems. Menus vary and dishes are on a first come first served basis. Blackboards show the menu the lamb... More

We have to admit that this restaurant's name summoned up a ghastly image of ruddy-faced Brits loudly pontificating about life in France. Fortunately, we looked at the menu outside and decided to give Froggy's a try, as our meal was memorable. The choice of food on offer is daringly simple: fine quality meat & fowl perfectly cooked. There was one... More

Froggys Tavern is one of three eateries run by the Gauthier family in the town, and the least formal. Under an archway off the main square, it has long tables and benches. Menus are on blackboards on walls. The speciality is spit roasted meat. On this Sunday evening, we settled for a light snack. Asparagus soup with poached egg, and... More

We eat here for lunch 4 or 5 times a year and it is always good value. A guy we know who owns one of the biggest companies in Smithfield agrees they have excellent meats especially for the price. We hope M. Gauthier doesn't let his opening of L'Anecdote affect this cracking little restaurant!!
