Informal. Good port in a storm

Froggys Tavern is one of three eateries run by the Gauthier family in the town, and the least formal. Under an archway off the main square, it has long tables and benches. Menus are on blackboards on walls. The speciality is spit roasted meat. On this Sunday evening, we settled for a light snack... read more

Given its pedigree (Alexandre Gauthier), Froggy's ought to be five-star. And given the formula - spit-roast meat - it ought to be packed with locals day in and day out. But it isn't. And the reason is plain to see. On our visit for dinner, a brace of quail and a half shoulder of lamb were gently roasting on the... More

We saw the other recommendations on Trip Advisor and wanted to try it. We didn't make a booking but arrived at 7pm when they open on Friday night and were the first to arrive. They found us a table without any problems. Menus vary and dishes are on a first come first served basis. Blackboards show the menu the lamb... More

We have to admit that this restaurant's name summoned up a ghastly image of ruddy-faced Brits loudly pontificating about life in France. Fortunately, we looked at the menu outside and decided to give Froggy's a try, as our meal was memorable. The choice of food on offer is daringly simple: fine quality meat & fowl perfectly cooked. There was one... More

We eat here for lunch 4 or 5 times a year and it is always good value. A guy we know who owns one of the biggest companies in Smithfield agrees they have excellent meats especially for the price. We hope M. Gauthier doesn't let his opening of L'Anecdote affect this cracking little restaurant!!

Fabulous little place hidden away off the main street. We visited as part of a large family group of 20 and were made very welcome by charming staff, some of whom spoke impeccable English. As a group we did not make things easy for them and were very demanding. Separate bills, some of us requiring prompt service due to having... More

Froggy's tavern is open 7/7 and is one of the restaurants of Alexandre Gauthier, chef of the famous Grenouillère. In this trendy place colored black and orange, you can eat several dishes à la broche like quals and coquelet out of Licques, pig and beef, served only with a - great - salad and smooth potatoes prepared in goose fat.... Froggy's Tavern (don't be put off by the name) has developed really well since our previous visit a couple of years ago. We enjoyed every element of our lunch - food, service (English eloquently spoken if needed), ambience, good house wine and price. Jointly owned by Alexandre Gauthier at Le Grenouiliere (also well worth a visit for a real fine... More
