Well worth a visit

A short break in Montreuil lead us try the restaurant attached to our hotel on the first night...clinical, expensive and not very good food (see separate review). After two meals in Michelin-starred restaurants we opted for Le Darnetal on our last night in Montreuil. Good value, good taste - Michelin restaurants overrated.

We chosen the best set menu. Good choice of starter and mains. The food was excellent, as was the service. We had the last table at 7.15pm, so worth booking. The French eat early, and seem to only have one sitting. The restaurant was empty by 9.30 and the owner was ready to close. So plan your food intake so... More

A group of 8 of us enjoyed a lovely lunch and such friendly service considering England were due to play France in the rugby later that day - chef as a big rugby fan didn't let that put him off producing great food. Bass was superb and friends rated the duck, monkfish / sole in saffron and the steak. The... More

This must surely be one of the most eclectic little restaurants you will find. The walls are decorated with everything from paintings and prints by French artists to dozens [perhaps a hundred] skip caps with the emblems of various football and rugby teams. You will not be short of something to look at whilst you await your food. The service... More

Quirky restaurant decorated with lots of French bits and pieces. Lovely welcome and the young man who served us was superb! We started with escargots, followed by Chateaubriand, cooked to perfection. This restaurant definitely lives up to its reputation. We will be back.

This cosy, intimate restaurant serves wonderful traditional French food cooked from the finest ingredients. Our party all ate different dishes and not one of us was disappointed.

Quirky decor in this central small restaurant (owner is a big Rugby Union fan). All three courses for both of us were superb. The prix fixe menus are excellent value, and so is the wine. Made to feel very comfortable throughout the meal. I would definitely return.

Really there is not much more to say than the title!! The rugby memorabilia gave the restaurant extra interest (the chef is a big Stade Francais fan!). The staff were very polite about our dreadful attempts at French and the whole lunch experience was thoroughly enjoyable. This is fast becoming our first choice restaurant whenever we make the trip down... More

This is a very popular restaurant within the town and it is often necessary to book during peak periods. The menu is wide ranging with a good selection of dishes with menus available for 22, 29 and 40 euros. We decided to select from the 22 and 29 euro menus and were not disappointed with either. There is also a... More
