Nothing brilliant.

It's average food, priced accordingly. Location excellent (adjacent to the Chateau). Service fine. But check your invoice before you sign off.

The cheaper of the two restaurants at the Chateau. Basic but honest food. The kumara gnocchi was a highlight. The service bodered on the comical at times but lent a friendly atmosphere in the end. Old photos of the Chateau with Ruapehu blowing its top in the back are great but the place is otherwise a bit dowdy. Possibly the best... More

Certainly don't believe the online promotion of "delicious brunch or dinner" ... two out of the three meals we ordered were far from "delicious" ... and the other on par with the dated, grubby and tired environment and decor. And whilst one staff member achieved some degree of professionalism face with concern raised about under-cooked seafood - indifference generally reigned.... More

Dinner here was very good and I particularly loved the old photos on the walls. The main area was noisy with a large group of women enjoying their dinner party but the helpful staff offered us to eat in the bar area, even closing the door between the dining room and the bar, and we enjoyed our evening.

Not a huge choice on the menu but the food when it came was very good and there was plenty of it. service wasn't great, certainly not to the standard we have become used to in New Zealand

Food here is prepared in the same kitchen as the (far swankier) Chateau restaurants, and it shows. Whilst the selection isn't as wide you'll get a good sized serving of tasty food at a much better price, and the relaxed cafe atmosphere means you can feel right at home clonking round in your boots and jacket. Service is unfailingly friendly,... More

I am not sure what the hamburger is made out of, but it certainly was nothing like ground sirloin. It is frustrating when you ask if a burger is homemade, the waiter replies 'yes, and you still end up with a mystery meat burger. And you pay $19 for it. My husband and I had burgers, and our friends had... More

We had been looking forward to fish and chips for dinner after doing one of the walks in the National Park. Our waiting staff were ok, friendly enough and brought us lots of free cold water. We both ordered the Fishermans Basket, which was average. The batter was chewy and the oysters were only just ok. It was also far... More

I go often to restaurants, all over the globe but I have never seen such a rude person, thanks Lord, it was only one. I have literally been shouted at. Well, I am not going elaborate on that anymore. Regarding food, the starters were pretty good, burger was medium and finally lamb was very tasty. But I would not go... More
