Hearty portions!

After a day's walking on Hadrian's Wall, there's nothing better than a pint of bitter and a good pub supper. The B&B recommended The Black Bull as a friendly pub with very good food. They were right on both counts. It's a cosy pub with a log fire, a varied menu and a good selection of beer. I had... read more

Excellent food though portions were too large for us. However it was very busy so much so that, even though we had booked a table, we had to eat in the bar, which was not ideal. However it was very good value for money. Reservations really essential at peak times

Lovely pub, lovely atmosphere and roaring fire- just what you want on a cold wet and windy day walking & visiting sites. Food was ok- hearty but very much pub grub which was fine. Bar staff lovely and really helpful.

Visited twice over Easter with a group of seven, including two children. Very accommodating, good home cooked food, nothing was too much trouble.

We visited Haltwhistle on Easter weekend and the Black Bull was recommended to us for a meal. We could not believe the content of The menu to start with, so much quality and so varied. We had a bit of trouble choosing what to have as it all looked so tempting,we both decided on the belly pork and it was... More

The Black Bull is an old fashioned pub, full of character and very welcoming. The food was tasty and well prepared, I had gammon with home made onion rings, which were surprisingly light and not dripping in fat. Service was terrific as was the last behind the bar. Well worth a visit if you're in Haltwhistle.

Went for family meal, 2 adults and 2 kids (10 and 7). Food was fantastic - tasty, good portions and freshly cooked. Veggie chilli was actually chilli flavoured, real onion rings and garlic bread had garlic on it not just paste - a real home cooked feel and taste. Sensibly priced. Real ales too which tasted good (tho was driving... More

We went here for Sunday Lunch. I honestly can't fault a thing. The food was amazing, hot and plenty of it. The is a lovely open fire and it's really cosy.

We had an excellent meal here. A great atmosphere, wide menu and big portions of quality food. An excellent range of real ales served by friendly staff.
