Coal fire, great food and friendly service. Good value too. Well hidden so you have to look behind the market square to find it.

The Black Bull is the best pub in Haltwhistle as far as we're concerned. It can be a little hard to find, since the only indication of its presence is a sign on the main street - the pub itself is down a small side lane off the village square. Stand by the sign and look south - you'll see... More

This is the best pub in town. The staff are super friendly ,the food very good and value for money and the quaint inside makes you feel like you have walked back in time. Go there you won't be disappointed.

We came here for a meal last night, and could not fault it in any way. Food and wine were wonderful, good vegetarian options and also very friendly staff despite it being clear that they were very busy. Just a bit of advice that the double glazed door and tacking flashing 'open' sign did not give great first impressions making... More

A small but authentic old English pub. Great Real Ale selection, very tasty food and a great atmosphere. Friendly staff (including the resident dog) and table service/ability to run a tab, which you don't see often in UK.

The Black Bull is only ½ block from Ashcroft Guest House, where we were staying. The Black Bull is a cute, low-ceilinged establishment that makes you feel like you've really arrived in England. It was pretty crowded when we first arrived, with the after-work crew, but cleared out a bit by the time we were ready for dinner. Both the... More

We went looking for food and drink and stumbled upon this authentic little local pub just off the Main Street and found themselves in the middle of a singalong with the locals on the bank holiday weekend. The ale was good, the staff friendly and the food great, so good we came back the next night as well. Lots of... More

We enjoyed a very good meal in the tiny dining room and the bar staff and waitress were excellent and doing their best BUT there was a party of six who had come in at 7pm and still not been allowed to even order at 8.30. We had booked by phone earlier that evening and were served very promptly, but... More

We love the Black Bull in Haltwhistle because it is a proper 'local'! The hand pulled beers are constantly changing as does the restaurant menu to reflect the seasons. There is usually a fire blazing in the inglenook and customers can chat easily without music blaring! The decor is a bit rough and ready but that's not to its detriment as... More
