Pleasant Suprise

In the area so took a chance in spite of some poor reviews. We found the staff friendly and helpful, the food suprisingly good and filling and the views excellent. Whitebait as a starter was fine and the Deli platter was very good value: we followed with home-made steak and kidney pudding which had... read more

We visited with several family members. It took 20 mins to get a drink even though it wasn't very busy. Great vegetarian choice, shame it was inedible. Had the vegetarian lasagne and it was dry and crispy. One of the party had lament tagine and it was inedible, but so the bill was reduced, but spoilt the night. Got fed... More

My grandparents took me here for Sunday lunch. After seeing the stunning views I was left massively disappointed. The table which we had prebooked was dirty. Not sure how many layers of food were stuck to the table. I had filo prawns to start which I suspect were frozen from Iceland or somewhere similar. My chilli con carne was inedible.... More

We went for lunch in this pub as part of a party of 49 ex-service personnel. The kitchen and staff could clearly not cope with such large numbers. Some people said their meals were ok, but on our table it took three quarters of an hour to deliver meals, my husband's meal arrived without potatoes which arrived after he had... More

On a busy Friday lunch time had a very good seat in the indoor restaurant with views across the Fareham Creek towards Portsdown Hill.Plenty of activity on the water to fill in the time whilst meal prepared and served. The portions were more than enough and too much for some fellow eaters.Altough under pressure due to the numbers the waitresses managed... I have never been before and we were a family of 5 of which 3 had eaten here before, we chose the Sunday roast, 1 of us had a starter of Whitebait which was fantastic and tasty so really keen on getting our roasts. Unfortunately the roast potatoes were awful, been reheated a few times I believe, all weren't good... More

We have enjoyed lunch at the Jolly Roger for some years, but last time - when we took friends from London there - it was all very disappointing. The beer was not at its sparkly best; calamari were soggy; liver was very dry, and there was a bit of a feeling that it didn't really matter - there were enough... More
