Visited the Jolly Roger on 14.9.14 to end a lovely weekend in Portsmouth with my family. What a shame we didn't go somewhere else - although if I'd ordered just a chip butty then maybe I'd be writing a different review given the chips (and spending time with my family) was the only good thing about the evening! Some of... More

I've only given this place one star, but then if you're into awful service, bland food and forced substitutions because half the menu is actually unavailable then maybe this IS the place for you! Visited on 14/9/14 as a party of 20 hoping for a relaxing end to our weekend after a wedding. After waiting for an hour we were... More

We decided against our better judgement to try eating here again. Big mistake. We are local to the Pub and it is such a shame that their food is so awful...badly presented, tasteless and expensive...its location is lovely, but that is no excuse for the poor standards.

The Jolly Roger is in a great location and is a hidden gem. Used as a local by many but also as a place to visit and enjoy the views and action on the water. On Friday evening we had a nice meal which was enjoyable but I must say average. We were looked after by an attentive landlady and... More

A great friendly bar/restaurant. Every time we visit the Jolly Roger is always very busy and sometimes have witnessed people being turned away because they can't fit anymore customers in. I can't understand where all the negative reviews come from as this pub has it all. A great selection of beers, wines, ciders and big selection of named brand Personally... More

I have eaten several times at the Jolly and will do so again. The location is great and I find the beer to be well kept; the dining fare is good too. The service can be a little rustic but that's part of the charm of the place.

We were a group of 6 family members that visited this pub. I am not a pub person so wasn't really looking forward to it, but I was wrong to be reticent. The food is of a good standard and the portions huge. The staff we met were friendly and helpful. It is good for the standard you would expect... More

I do like this place, it has a very nice, chilled out atmosphere. I have been there on 4 occasions; three times for a meal and once for just a drink. On 2 occasions I have found the owner abrupt and rude. For example the second time I went, I asked him a simple question; "is it ok to sit... More

As locals we would visit this establishment more regularly. However our experience has generally not been positive. The food is variable, usually average but never outstanding. Our biggest gripe is their 'take it or leave it' attitude to customer service. Numerous examples, but I'll just mention a recent one. My wife ordered a fresh melon starter and a spaghetti bolognese... More
