A gem of a Restaurant not to be missed... ...if you are in this glorious part of the world seeking a good meal and friendly atmosphere, then this restaurant is a must ! We have visited several times now, because it is a real treat - a delicious selection of flamand cooking, celebrating regional produce and rustic recipes. Guinea fowl,... More

Brilliant view over landscape from highpoint in town. Wooden board games to play, ceiling hung with pots and pans etc, Great snack lunch - delicious individual quiches, omelette and good local beer. Well worth a visit for food and atmosphere!

To visit the gardens, you'll have to climb Mont Cassel first, where Estaminet Kasteelhof is situated. We came here not for a lunch or dinner, but to get the tickets for the garden - and were pleasantly surprised by the delicatessenshop that sold all kinds of regional specialties, such as rillettes and "potjesvlees".....

Hidden up by the mill on the hill. Very welcoming patron speaks English. Pretty full on a Saturday evening but still had space both inside and out. We chose to sit on the terrace on a warm summer evening -bliss. Home made fruit juices, Lemonade flavoured soft drinks, Ciders and a multitude of beers provide more than enough choice on... More

Brilliantly authentic Flemish bar/cafe/corner shop (estaminet in French) which is stuffed with things to admire. Difficult to find as it masquerades as an anonymous building on the winding hill road leading to the Foch monument. Behind the front door on the right is a small shop with local jams, beers, trinkets and all sorts for unusual Xmas gifts (that's what... More

This was the only time we didn't book (forgot international code for France and we were only 40 mins away in Belgium so decided just to go for it) and we were lucky it was Friday lunchtime because we got a table. A bit more limited in the menu than we have had on previous trips but always before we... More

My wife and I accompanied two freinds to this Flemish tavern on 23rd September 2012. We found the town of Cassel to be a wondrous place but, having driven up to the summit of the hill we realised that there was even better to come. We entered the tavern to become entranced by the surroundings - from the little shop... More

As the previous reviewer indicated, this typically Flemish estaminet offers a menu of local specialties. For my dinner, I started with pâté aux prunes and continued with the main course called Cœur Casselois, a kind of quiche made with diced pork and applesauce. For dessert, the manager recommended something called Ch'tiramisu, the Flemish version of the Italian tiramisu. The difference?... More

I have eaten several times at this charming estaminet (a cross between a pub and a cafe)on the very top of Cassel hill, beside the windmill. You share scrubbed wooden tables with other diners, and eat traditional Flemish fare such as potjefleesch, carbonnade of beef, shredded pork - all served with chips. Big selection of local beers and fruit juices.... More
