I visited the Dukes head in August whilst in Stowmarket for afternoon lunch the pub is in need of an update but overall it has that traditional British pub feel as well as great value food and drink, the weather was very hot so the garden was great place to eat.

In response to Alison W's poor portrayal of the Dukes Head ... I can only say your head is so far up your own behind that I'm surprised you lowered your obvious aristocratic status to visit such a venue... You my dear are pompous b@#£h!! I've been coming here for years and find your pathetic remarks to be unfounded and... More

please ignore good reviews raving on about his place, they are clearly regular drinkers begged by the landlord - this place is the pits, literally. The overpowering smell of raw sewerage coming from the cellar and the dirty mop left in dirty water bucket outside the kitchen should be enough to put you off from eating here, if not try... More

If you want to have a beautiful locally sourced fresh meal - go elsewhere! The Duke's is amazingly priced and the food is fine - no complaints! Just good old honest pub grub. Better value than wetherspoons by miles and I often visit and will continue to do so.

The food was excellent, very good value. The pub needs a lick of paint, but the people were friendly and welcoming. Hadn't been for 4 years as the food was awful and the place was dirty. So glad gave it a second chance, better than the willow tree (Witherspoons pub), which is just over the road. Shall be going back.

This little pub is not the trendiest of places and could do with updating but the food and friendly service certainly make up for that. We always eat from the '2 for £6.45' menu (yes thats two meals for £6.45!!) And we have two blackcurrant and sodas with our meal, the total price for two of us is £6.75! The... More

Popped in there today with my wife, on my first trip to Stowmarket, lovely friendly staff. Had the curry brilliant value, 2 meals for 6.45. I gather from a member of staff that the pub is due a refurb in the New Year. Brilliant Christmas lights. Definitely the most welcoming pub from the outside. Was going to go to Weatherspoons,... Called in for a snack and a drink on a very quiet mid week lunchtime. We sat and finished our drinks slowly. There was still no arrival of our food even though we had asked half way through our drinks as to how much longer it was likely to be. As we were not that keen on sitting looking at... More

What an amazingly grotty pub. Ripped leather chesterfield sofa takes pride of place in main seating area. Quite a revolting place stinking of stale ale. We came to eat but these no way I'm trusting their kitchen. Across the road there's a wetherspoons and that's where we are going when this beer is finished. On a positive note, there's car... More
