Magnificent room, mediocre food and service

Having had such pleasant interactions with the staff at the Ahwahnee Hotel, I expected the same level of service in the dining room. While the people who helped us with room service breakfast were lovely, the staff in the dining room were not as consistently friendly. The food also was a little... read more

We were staying the Yosemite area and wanted to visit/shop/eat at the famed/historic Ahwahnee Hotel there. Our day trip into Yosemite Valley included lunch at the Ahwahnee and while the food was excellent (fresh, great flavors, etc) I was underwhelmed by the service and ambience. The restaurant reservations personnel were not happy/inviting and while our servers were not rude, I... More

Food ingredients were over thought. Combination and executions poor. The chef "killed" the burrata mozzarella. It was cooked, believe it or not, and like rubber! Pasta was too thick. The breakfasts were all right though, but nothing special. The food at the bar was very good.

We made 1:30PM reservations for the Sunday Brunch. We waited a few minutes and we seated at table by a window and what a spectacular view it is. The dining room is a work of art in itself and long room with Chandeliers a tall 34 foot ceiling with wood beams. A piano player sets the mood set near the... More

We had two lunches and a dinner in the dining room. The barbecue pork sandwich with potato salad, the sandwich was very tasty. For another lunch, the rueben with a side salad, which was also good. For dinner, the swordfish, which was very well prepared. Hint: reserve a table in advance if at all possible. The dining room fills up... More

The Ahwanee Dining Room has to be experienced. Just walking in is a breathtaking experience. The timbered ceiling is 34 feet high. There are huge windows, looking at some of the most awesome aspects of God's great creation. It is a small step back in time, truly elegant dining, with a dress code, with a piano player, with a million... More

You do not need to eat here but be sure you look at this drop dead gorgeous room. Many hotels were built in the valley but the Ahwahnee is the only hotel that got it right and lasted. A gem and difficult to explain how amazing this building is constructed.

We reserved a 130 pm late lunch for a party of 5. We were glad to have made a reservation even in March as we bypassed a huge line. Our waitress had 4 tables. Our drink orders were taken by the bus girl immediately. 30 minutes passed before our waitress first visited our table. And the first words out of... More

1. We ate 3 breakfasts, 2 dinners and 1 brunch during our 4 night stay at the Ahwahnee. 2. Saturday we arrived at 4pm check in time. Last year we arrived at 3pm, and had to wait an hour for our room to be ready. 3. All the dining hall reservations were filled for the night, and we were put... More
