Good southern food

Food was really good - regional, olive sandwiches, shrimp salad, tomato aspic - and HUGE portions. Service was very good and the old house - 1870s? - was lovely. It was walking distance of about 2+ blocks from the Baer Inn where we were staying.

We always stop when going though to try something different. We had the Chicken this time and again, no better anywhere. A little pricy but worth treating yourself.

Really nicely set out restaurant with a good atmosphere and obviously popular with the locals. Our lunch was well prepared and service was good. If we had any criticism at all may be the menu could offer something slightly more adventurous without losing the good southern home cooking type theme. All up a ice experience indeed.

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant, but were sorely disappointed. The fried pickles were so salty and greasy that we couldn't eat them. My husband's pork loin was so tough that he could hardly cut it with the knife. They left a girl that was just in training alone to serve us. She couldn't answer our questions about... More

We’re so sorry to hear that. We pride ourselves on excellent food and quality service, and we agree this is not acceptable. We will look into it immediately. More

My husband and I eat at Walnut Hills every Sunday for lunch after church. We meet friends there as well as see a lot of out of town people eating. The food is great, Southern cooking at it's best. The restaurant is known for their fried chicken among other dishes. Friendly atmosphere and good service. You may sit at one... More

I had the chicken Alfredo and the sauce was full of butter to the point that it was separating out and sitting in pools on the plate. The food was average at best and way overpriced for the quality. The service was not very good- people running around everywhere like they didn't know what to do. It took a long... More

Thank you for your review, Jamie. We understand that we can’t appeal to everybody that comes in, but we are sorry you feel this way. We have some that say the chicken alfredo is their favorite dish, so it depends on the person and their preference. We’re a local restaurant that’s been a part of Vicksburg for 35 years and... More

This establishment has a lot of history and is definitely not the run of the mill restaurant. We selected it due to other tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed. We had excellent service and food.

We stopped at Walnut Hills early before the dinner crowd, so we didn't have the round table serving. However, we were not disappointed, the service was prompt and friendly and the food was outstanding. Try it, you can't go wrong!

A friend recommended this place to us when we were passing through Vicksburg in January. We were expecting the normal, run of the mill place, but everything we had was wonderful, from the salads to the dessert. This is an old house, and they have left enough of the charm so that you almost feel that you are a guest... More
