The real deal

Great if you like Hawaiian Food. Stick to the Kalaua Pig, Poi, Ono, and the like. Have lunch there when you visit the Bishop Museum.

This restaurant is off the beaten path....and CRAZY crowded with locals....It's not much to look at, but don't be fooled, the food is terrific. We waited 30mins outside before being seated and the line only grew longer while we were there. Constant table turn over. The wait staff was great and very accommodating. (Thanks, ladies!!) We ate lau lau and... More

After the Arizona memorial, we had a late lunch early dinner. We got a special and added on multiple entrees. Everything was very tasty. We got the beef. It was by far the best. I had the fried ahi. This was a close second. Make sure to try the onions and salt. We also enjoyed the Kailua pork. The prices... More

If you want to eat like a local, eat here. The food is amazing. You have to treat yourself to the short ribs. They're closed Saturday-Monday so plan accordingly. You and your stomach will be happy with this stop.

This is the real deal. My family and I have been going to Helena's since the 60's for authentic, delicious hawaiian food. Their ribs are amazing, the butterfish is fresh and cooked just right and I love their luau with squid. Their haupia is creamy and rich. I love the family atmosphere and enjoy going there at least once a... More

I've spent a lot of time on O'ahu and Helena's has by far the best short ribs I've ever had! This is a must have anytime I'm in town. The seating is somewhat limited, but the staff has always been very friendly and it's definitely worth the wait...though if you're short on time, I recommend getting an order to go... More

Very popular locally owned spot with outstanding kalua pig and lau lau. The short ribs were also excellent though quite fatty (probably why they tasted so good). This non-descript joint has all the makings of a great hole in the wall (the best kind), with only a few tables inside and cash-only policy. Take-out is a great option especially if... More

If you are getting take out get on the register line, if you are dining in take a seat. We had take out as they were a little crowded. Being rung up by Elaine was a real treat she was so sweet and very helpful with the menu. The short ribs and haupia were out of this world!! And hey... More

We saw other reviews and decided to stop by on our fourth day in Hawaii. We should have come sooner, as this was the least expensive meal during our stay at Hilton Hawaiian Village. Fortunately we rented a car and were able to experience this goodness. We purchased the Menu B along with the fried mahi, a sample of poi,... More

I wanted authentic Hawaiian food for lunch and I got it in spades. It is a very small storefront and you will drive by it the first time, I would imagine everyone does. When you walk in it will be packed with locals were very welcome and expendable. I shared with him it was my first time and they suggested... More
