The menu says it all

Pig's feet soup, mochiko chicken, deep fried turkey tails, salmon with macnut watercress pesto, what more can you want? This place has about 10 or 12 seats and people wait in line to get in. You sit with strangers and make friends with Ethel.

Ethel's Grill won the 2014 and 2015 Honolulu Magazine award for best Hole in the Wall restaurant... Located out in an industrial district next to a place that had rebar on sale.... When we first drove by we thought OMG!!!!! What are getting into? On the menu at Ethel's Grill? Fried turkey tails, ox tail soup, opah belly, pigs feet... More

This local Japanese restaurant has been serving good food for decades to the working class people in this industrial neighborhood. I remember when all the people eating here were the blue collar workers from the area, but I guess since the Internet and word of mouth, I see all kinds of people in here now so it gets super busy... My friends have talked about Ethel's for years, though I'd never gotten down to eat there because Ethel's is in an industrial section of Honolulu that's not the safest place to be at night ... and feels a little sketchy during the day. After a short wait, we were seated in the tiny restaurant (about 20 seats) and enjoyed the... More

We ate at Ethel's Grill today around 10am. It's just a little hole-in-the-wall kinda place but the food is great! We ordered Japanese style hamburger steak. It doesn't come with gravy, they have a light shoyu sauce with grated dikon on top. It's served with a bowl of rice, miso soup & a small bowl of fresh greens with their... More

This is a very small hole in the wall eatery that is a hidden gem. It can hold about 23 people at small tables. The decor is sumo themed with posters and pics on the walls. The sashimi was excellent and perfectly prepared. If you are looking for great food at a good price this is the place to visit.... More

This place has been around forever...all of the classics and more... loco moco, hamburger steak, ahi, oxtail soup....the list goes on and on... what impressed me was the freshness of the food, the original style of the cooking... and some of the healthier options..such as Japanese hamburger steak... served with a light soy dressing instead of the heavy brown gravy...the... I've been eating here for years. A very small place and more often than not there is a line outside waiting for a table, an obvious indication that good food awaits. Take out is an option if you are in a rush though I recommend calling your order in. Meals come with a small salad (delicious homemade dressing) and miso... More

Ethels is a must for us every time we come to Honolulu! The food is amazing and they don't skimp on it! Try the Sumo Size of most dishes - you probably won't be able to finish it. I enjoy the Loco Moco here as well as Mochico Chicken and good old Ramen. You can't go wrong with Ethel's -... More

Great down-home experience. Parking is tough but other than that, all great. This place is a nit of an institution for the area.
