This place is fantastic. Basically, not that expensive but food quality is not less than the over-priced "fancy" Japanese restaurants in Waikiki. I also like the Interior design and service. We ordered a bunch of dishes and we liked most of them. For dinner, they accept reservation from 5 to 7 p.m. So, make a reservation early or go and... More

This is the gold standard for Japanese cuisine in the United States. Fresh food, amazing service, best sake selection I've seen outside of Japan.

Yeah I like Izakaya style Japanese food and this is top 2 or 3 in Honolulu. Did not want to write this because it is already hard to get a reservation and the locals like to have a place they can go that has amazing atmosphere and is not filled with Japanese tourists or people who read things like Trip... This small restaurant on King Street behind the University is a real treat. Two orders of chankonabe were enough to feed six hungry people. There was plenty of seafood in this stew dish, including shrimp, crab, mushrooms, abalone, napa cabbage, salmon, pork balls, beef and a flavorful broth. It comes with either a rice porridge or udon noodles. The chanko... More

Love the butterfish and dynamite! Make sure you make a reservation! They are usually full-house.

OK so the word is out about this truly wonderful restaurant/izakaya. Many years ago when we first discovered Imanas, my two daughters told me not to write a review because...well, you know the crowd thing, right? Anyways, when you read all the positive reviews on yelp and tripadvisor, you know that this place is probably on the top of everyone's... More

I can't help you if you don't like this place. You're vacationing in Honolulu, so chances are you can't like this place -- Denny's is more your thing. But if you must vacation or do business here, and you have taste and a strong sense of self esteem, Imanas Tei is simply an excellent place for Japanese cuisine.

I was planning to go to Sushi Izakaya Gaku but they were closed for the week so I ended up in this place. We ordered quite a few things: 1 sashimi combo, 2 sushi combo, 1 tamagoyaki (fried egg), 1 fried tofu, 1 green tea ice, and maybe something else but I don't remember. The sashimi was really good. The... More
