Kaka'ako Kitchen was the perfect solution — we needed a place with fairly fast service to grab lunch between sightseeing. There were eight people in our group including two teenagers, and everyone found something tasty. I had the Shoyu chicken, which was cooked in spices until it fell off the bone. Rice and macaroni salad rounded out the meal. Seating... More

We wanted a quick bite and this place filled the bill! Shared a Kalua pork moco. It hit the spot! This restaurant is located at the Ward Warehouse

Sometimes when everyone you're with can't decide on a place to get food, just start wandering. We ended up in here. The restaurant is smaller than I imagined it to be, then again Famous Footwear is just behind of them. Since I wasn't familiar with their menu items, I just decided to order their beef stew (had a craving and... More

Located in the Ward's Warehouse Mall this restaurant is an extension of Russell Siu's On the Rise restaurant. Instead of the more haute cuisine of the On the Rise, the Kitchen's food is not as fancy and plated like a traditional plate lunch (I.e. Scoops of rice, ubiquitousness macaroni salad, etc.). The food though is a cut above the normal... More

Some creative and tasty local options at this semi-local joint, with indoor and outdoor seating. I was here years ago and had fond memories, but the food did not seem as delicious this time around. Still, it's a nice plate-lunch option close by shopping, fairly affordable, and generally clean and friendly.

I've eaten here, whenever I'm on Oahu, for eight or nine years, since soon after it first opened. When I first visited, it truly was a "gourmet plate lunch" place, fresh and delicious. Sadly, as other posts have pointed out, the quality has gone downhill. It's still OK, and a good, affordable option, but it's hardly gourmet anymore. Tips: Avoid... More

During our recent Honolulu visit, we found this great spot in Ward Center and had lunch several times. The pork chops over Portuguese sausage dressing with onion gravy was outstanding and the furikake tempura catfish with ponzu sauce won my wife's raves. They have daily specials as well as an extensive fixed menu. Dining is mostly outside - watch out... More

This is an excellent choice for local food with some healthy options (ie. brown rice instead of white). Both the shoyu chicken and the mahi were excellent.

When finding ourselves in the Ala Moana area, my husband and I quickly referred to our Frommer's Hawaii guidebook for an inexpensive lunch option. We were enticed by the description of Kaka'ako Kitchen's gourmet plate lunches and were not disappointed. The menu has a wide range of options including tempura catfish, five-spice shoyu chicken, beef stew, kalua pork sandwich, loco... More
