“Crowded and busy, so some people love it, but not us”

The prices were very reasonable and it was crowded. However, our food was mediocre and the onion rings were so bad I didn't even eat them. I tasted no onion, just stale breading. Since this place is often packed, I am going to assume there is something that is delicious, but I don't know what it is. more

Had the misfortune of having breakfast here (1st Sept 08). Unfortunately I took a seat where I could see the food being prepared and observed some very dubious standards of hygiene being exercised by the guy preparing the food. The staff is extremely friendly, the decor is cute and retro but the portions are very average and my eggwhite omelette had very funny tasting cheese. more

My husband is a firefighter so our first stop in Newport was the firehouse where we were recommended Gary's Handy Lunch. Walking in was like going back in time, from the decor to the friendly service. We enjoyed large portions at great prices. Stopped in Gary's this past weekend both mornings after reading these reviews. Old fashioned diner with great breakfast and lunch too. Food was very good and amazing prices for being in the heart of the town. Make sure to have a cinnamon bun,they are scrumtous!! Gary's opens at 5am and are open until 3pm. During a recent stay in Newport, we asked the hostess of the restaurant we were dining at where the locals ate breakfast, and she said this was the spot.
