We arrived a little later than our reservation - but were greeted with with a smile. We had a delicious meal starting with an appetizer of 4 grilled shrimp layered on top of fresh mozarella cheese and an heirloom tomato topped with arugula pesto. We shared a scallop and lobster pie which was creamy and deliciously seasoned. We finished our... More

So.... I read low reviews and high reviews. I tend to go with the middle. But this place, from it's ownership to it's bar staff to it's food was one of the best experiences I've had. I hate being a tourist. I live in NYC, and, well, they bother me. So going to another town I really try not to... More

Off the beaten path, if you are looking for a great setting, with a lovely atmosphere.... this is your place. We choose outdoor setting which was fantastic, but the interior is breathtaking. We had a started mushroom ravioli. Followed by the Filet and Lobster Tail and the Rack of lamb- both amazing. Quiet and intimate for a very private dinner,... More

My husband and I enjoyed another wonderful dinner with my sister and brother-in-law on August 7th.The food and service was the usual fine quality. My filet mignon was superb. Only sorry we did not get a chance to see Maggie, but were still treated with the friendliness of the staff.

Free parking in Newport! Can you believe it. Besides free parking in the adjacent lot and lack of a line on a busy summer sailing weekend the Canfield House has seriously good food. The atmosphere is shabby chic as befits a dining establishment with a historic background as a casino, but the service is excellent and the food is good.... More

We were in town for 2 days on a mini-vacation. We had been to Canfield about 6 years ago when we last stayed here and decided to go again. We were not disappointed! The appetizer's were wonderful. We split a wild mushroom ravioli with fried spinach and a cream sauce. Top notch. We then had a 1/2 bottle of Pouilly-Fuisse... More

We found out about Canfield House thanks to Drawing Room Antiques in Newport, RI. We were lucky to be visiting Newport during the week as opposed to weekend so restaurant and hotel reservations were easier. We had no difficulty as a walk-in to Canfield House on a Wednesday evening and were nicely surpised about their mid week $35 for Two... More

Nice décor but spoiled by loud locals with their children. Food was fine as was the service but the place gets noisy with poorly behaved locals who have not yet taught their 5-12 year olds how to behave in a nice place.

This was a cracker of a meal: lobster bisque, superb salad, lamb cutlets and a divine dessert. The ambience is refined and restrained. A definite Newport must-do
