Stunning venue, dining needs to match.

The historic Chanler Inn, grounds, ocean views are outstanding. Service is impeccable as it should be. I would note that unfortunately the preparation and taste of the culinary offerings need to match the lovely descriptions on the menu. It wasn't that our meals were terrible, it was just... read more

If you want to experience Newport Mansion style restaurant and bar scene, don't miss this recently renovated first class spot. The bar scene is pure roaring tweenties, including the noisy and happy local clientele, while the restaurant is all classic looks. I had dinner at the bar counter, best lobster roll in years, and enjoyed the conversatio with friends and... More

Had a romantic dinner here for my birthday. We were seated at a fantastic table overlooking the water at sunset - gorgeous! Our waiter was incredible, very professional and made great recommendations. Starters were a seasonal melon salad and lobster bisque - both very flavorful and delicious. Entrees were gulf shrimp with diver scallops and a halibut filet with veggies... More

Dining room is enclosed like a solarium on 2 sides with either a view overlooking Cliff Terrace Restaurant or Cliff Walk, with both sides also showcasing the Atlantic Ocean. We were seated against the wall but still enjoyed the ocean views. Ate dinner here twice during our 4 night stay, & Cole was our friendly, personable waiter both times. Service... More

Went 8/6 for my husbands birthday. Setting is lovely, service was very good but food was disappointing. My husband had gulf shrimpt and diver scallops - he's from the seacoast and knows seafood and was disappointed that both were not fresh. For the price, for the establishment, he expected more. He questioned the waiter who spoke to the chef that... More

We dropped by for lunch before our Cliff Walk experience and thoroughly enjoyed everything about this place. We had a beautiful view from our window seat, and the food was absolutely delightful. Perfect spot.

The building is beautiful as is the view, however at their exorbitant prices a diner shouldn't have to swat flies and gnats. When I pointed out a gnat had landed in my wine, he simply removed the glass and remaining wine without offering a replacement. I can't remember dining anywhere with prices so ridiculous. The food was good as was... More

Dear Joe B., I am very sorry to hear that your experience at The Spiced Pear was affected by flies. May I ask where you were sitting when this occurred? It is late summer here in Rhode Island and unfortunately this is when the insect population is at its peak, especially if you are dining outdoors. I am going to... More

Pricey compared to other options in Newport but worth the treat. Great for a lazy day lunch/brunch. We sat outside and lucked out with a table on the terrace/wall overlooking the water. Given the service, ambiance, food and views, it was relatively well priced though not cheap. Bit of a wait but we walked the Cliff Walk and chilled on... More

Perfect setting for a light dinner in the veranda. Our server was personable, upbeat, and professional. The margarita pizza and wedge salad were fresh and delicious and the vodka pear martini was unique and just right for the last night of our NE vacation. Gorgeous venue.

Went for dinner. Food was phenomenal. The scenery was breathtaking. Our server was also excellent and made fantastic menu suggestions. What a gorgeous place to go. On the expensive side but you pay for what you get.
