Restaurant week meal

I haven't had a full meal at the Black Pearl in years. The chowder is still definitely delicious but the rest of our entrees were nothing special. We had veal marsala and a lobster over pasta dish. Both were only OK. I had brought friends from out of town so I was disappointed and they were as... read more

Always a great place to go for chowder and a sandwich. Very good wait staff. Cozy and relaxed atmosphere.

We walked down a small street and entered the Pub side of the Black Pearl. Bartender was very friendly and drinks were very good. We ate on the Pub side at a nice table by the window. I ordered the most wonderful scallops I have ever tasted.....Nantucket Scallops. Truly heavenly. My husband had chowder and scampi....we cleaned our plates. The... More

Have a bowl of chowder and skip the food ! Very average and tired menu. Great location and nice atmosphere.

I love the Black Pearl in summer because you can have a great (but not the best) bowl of chowder, with a great view of the water, and great people watching. Inside the restaurant is cramped, dark, and loud. Some might like that, but I prefer to seat more than 6" from the next table.

Stopped by last Saturday for lunch. I was surprised at how tight the tables were situated. My husband and I ordered the chowder. Not disappointed. Delicious! Then, I had the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato, yummy. My husband had a roast beef sandwich. He said it was very good. Kind of expensive for lunch, $50 with tip. I would... More

Was expecting a more elegant restaurant from the descriptions I read and was very disappointed. It is an ordinary restaurant with ordinary food that is overpriced. Would not recommend

This is a very expensive restaurant with a very limited menu. Service is good but understand why the crowds. You always need reservations. I don't think it was worth it.

Institution among restaurants in Newport. Very simple but elegant combined with very good food and excellent service. I am referring to the formal dining room called Commodore Room, not the pub side. For two and half decades our place to celebrate New Year and other special occasions. Little pricey but worth it since the food will not disappoint you. Chef... More

The clam chowder was hands down the best we have ever eaten, anywhere. It was smooth, full of flavor, tender clams and not a bit of grit! The rest of the food was pretty average, but was hot, plentiful and filled our bellies on a dreary day. We ate in the tavern and were seated in a tight little corner,... More
