Came with a group of friends. A few have been coming for years for their famous clam chowder - they said it's the best anywhere. I had the chilled beet and ginger soup. Would love the recipe! Service was good - food really good. Newport RI is a charming town.

Really enjoyed the chowder here - best bit of the meal. Told later by a local that it's the best! (You can also get it as a takeout which is lovely too - sit by the harbour side and watch the boats.). The rest of the food we had was average American style sandwiches/burgers with fries. Service good apart from... More

While staying in Newport we decided to have dinner at the Black Pearl, a restaurant we visited 15 years ago. Sadly much has not changed. The Commodore Room's décor is much as we remembered it and needs a little updating. Although the food was very good, the $200.00 bill for four with only 1 glass of wine was a little... More

Loved this food so ate dinner twice in the 5 days I was here. Had halibut the 1st evening. Yum yum delicious. Hot flavorful NOT dry just right with a lovely delicate flavor. Even the broccoli was great. Always started with a dozen oysters for us 3 gals. Slurpy divine! Following evening I had their stripped sea bass WOW it... More

The best New England clam chowder I ever had! The burgers are terrific as well, and desserts to die for! The waitstaff is very friendly yet efficient and go out of their way to make your dining experience a pleasure! You can also buy the clam chowder to take home!

We had lunch at the Black Pearl with a friend that frequents Newport. He said they make the best New England clam chowder, he was right. Good food, service and location.

I have been going to this restaurant for years.Food has always been very good and the people pleasant .My grandchildren love the clam chowder and my husband and I get the pepper chicken or the BBQ shrimp. The French fries are crisp and very tasty.I recommend this small but interesting place to eat that looks like a tavern.Next door is more... After I finally realized just how "Yankee" this town of Newport was, having a bowl of chowder began to seem a very important goal. Stacks of Black Pearl Chowder were on display in various stores I strolled through. People were recommending the Black Pearl Restaurant. My husband and friends ambled down a wharf and saw The Black Pearl. It wasn't... More

We ate here several times during our visit. It feels like you are in a dark ship hull having dinner. The food was fine but the location and ambience are fantastic. We even ordered a case of cans of clam chowder so we can enjoy a little of the Black Pearl at home.

Visited with my husband, a friend recommended. I didnt find anything special that makes me want to go back there. I think the food was overpriced compared to the portion. The wait staff was great and pleasant, and the location was ok, but noe view of the water.
