The Pearl is a Newport icon. Situated close to the show pier, the crowd was crushing and the staff was stressed. Yet, the served excellent food, promptly and courteously. The braised rock bass was excusably good given the situation. Our group of six had a wonderful time from drinks to dessert.

It could be 90 degrees out and I would still order the clam chowder at this place. We love their mussels also, but this place is also about the atmosphere as during the summer it has a great out door at and dining area. I have never been for dinner but had lunch here 100 times and can only hope... More

stopped in for lunch after visiting Newport mansions on a rainy, blustery day. The Pearl was warm and cozy ( no view though) and featured some comfort foods along with hot cider (with or without rum). One of our group pronounced the shepherds pie as the best ever and another had the black and blue tuna special and really enjoyed... More

Like the coziness of the seating areas also the location on the Wharf with shops nearby. Wait staff friendly and food excellent and wait staff accommodating as well.

We live in Newport and we have tried most tourist places and we keep coming back to the black pearl. It's great value for lunch. We sit at the bar. The bartenders are awesome. A sandwich with fries is $9.00. Better and cheaper than a deli sandwich. I highly recommend it.

Stopped in for lunch this weekend and although not a huge fan of New England clam chowder, I tasted some of my husband's and I wished I had ordered a bowl. Although not as thick as I had expected, the taste was filled with dill, other lovely herbs and seafood flavors. The fresh tuna over mixed greens and seaweed was... More

We were told that the restaurants in the Wharf area of Newport were all good, so we went there one night, so we could sit outside. When we ordered I thought it was unusual that there was a UP CHARGE of $1.00 if you switched from French Fried Potato's? I questioned the server and she said "they" won't bend the... More

Been to the Black Pearl a number of times and all i can say is that they have the "best clam chowder". The wife and I were visiting during restaurant week and we both had some chowder and one delicious shrimp caesar salad and a chicken caesar salad. I was very tempted to have a second bowl of chowder...but didn't... More

The night before Thanksgiving. Hardly anybody around. Good service, but that is to be expected. Wife's 1 1/2 lb. lobster was tasty - if not swimming in water. My popcorn shrimp was cooked nicely - not overdone. A little bit of butter flavor made it stand out. BUT - why serve draft beer in 8 oz. glasses? Stupid - in... More

Are you kidding me??? Bar was mostly filled up, several tables with people. I understand it's the week before Thanksgiving but really giving us a beer menu (why???, 4 taps and a few bottled beers) and the regular menu, walking away and then "chatting up" the females at the bar and NEVER checking to see how we are doing. I'm... More
