Good Selection of Irish Beers on Tap

We were trying to avoid the tour-bus chain restaurants after a morning of mansion-viewing and luckily found a local lobster pound near Goat Island causeway for lunch. However, the Shack didn't serve beer; and since Celtica had the look of a well-used local Irish pub, we made an after-lunch stop... read more

Comfy leather chairs around a small fireplace, lots of TV's, pub food, long bar, lots of bistro tables and chairs, a pool table, jukebox....there's something for everyone there. Couples, families, guys killing a few hours while their wives are shopping, just around the corner from Wyndham Long Wharf and convenient to shopping area on Thames St. MacKenzie is the friendliest... Came by on Sunday night while we visited in Newport to watch the football game. They had a decent beer selection including some local options. There was a nice crowd of people without being overcrowded.

We stopped in on a Friday night late in Sept for drinks and karaoke. The place was empty except for a few locals. We were a group of young and middle age adults (14 of us in all) (with one 18 year old family member in tow) celebrating a naval officer graduation. Unfortunately, we were asked to leave at 10... Great beer, delicious food...would highly recommend the lobster roll and steak bomb! The people who said it had bad service didn't appreciate the small town family atmosphere- you just go to the bar and get your stuff. Everyone is super friendly. Prices are very reasonable!!

What I liked about this place...hmmm, that would have to be the beer. Yes, Newport in the summer is a tourist mecca, but am I mistaken that servers make their money from .....customers? How about a greeting? A smile? A "I'll will be with you in a minute?" Apparently, the tables with dirty glasses and plates needed more attention than... More

Cool bar with nice bar tenders and a decent beer selection. Was staying in the hotel above it and would rather drink in a local bar than a hotel bar and you can't go wrong with this place.

This is an old, kind of crusty bar which we found to be a local favorite. Don't look for fancy here but it's a great place for a beer and lobster roll while meeting locals. The tee shirts have an attractive logo. We bought one.

It was a Sunday night and very empty with only two other people in the establishment. We had our kids with us expecting to get them non-alcolohilic piña coladas...however, they had no fixins for any kind of piña coloda, alcoholic or otherwise. They didn't even have apple juice! What made the experience worse was the music playing - all rap... More
