Ate here twice-lunch and breakfast. Both times the food was decent - hamburger, fries, French toast. The service was mediocre. Once they took our order and brought it out, we never saw them again. This seems to be the way restaurants are run these days. No service but they expect a tip. Not sure I'd eat here again.

Service was OK, but the food was terrible. My salad was mostly just wilted lettuce. I was surprised they would even serve something so unsatisfactory. My husband got the bison burger and said it was edible but not great. Definitely not worth eating at this restaurant.

On our travels through the Northern United States we stopped by this historic town, which was right out of a wild west movie, we stopped by this Cowboy Cafe as this was one of 2 restaurants that are open during off season. The waitress was friendly and we ordered burgers which was great, I had my first Buffalo burger which... More

A very folksy, down-to-earth place with great service, great food and good prices. The pancakes are to do die for! So light and fluffy and so expertly made. I went there twice, and they were perfect both times. I even spoke to the cook and he was very humble and stated he makes them the same way he always has.... More

Really, have a caramel roll! We enjoy all the pictures of the 'cowboys'. A lot of them are/wereneighbors. Good coffee. Don't expect a 'fancy' one. Just good ol coffee. Good prices.

They do serve other meals, but we tended to start our day there with a nice big breakfast before heading out to hike in the badlands. The staff are all very friendly. It has a cowboy atmosphere about it.

This restaurant had a really sweet waitress so I give one star for that. The rest - I should have eaten my own food in the RV. Onion rings dark, dark brown over cooked. Sandwich so thin it was like eating two pieces of bread. Potatoes boxed for sure with that icky taste. Liver and onions greasy and thin and... More

Stopped in for breakfast thinking a couple orders of 2 cakes & 2 link sausages, a caramel roll and an order of French toast should not be too difficult for a small restaurant that should be prepared to serve up their Sunday special quickly (the cakes & links.) Unfortunately 50 minutes later we were watching tables seated after us eating... More

We were really hoping for the best at the Cowboy Cafe as the place had been recommended by a local ("that's where we always eat"). The cafe is definitely rustic. Wooden tables and benches and lots of photos on the walls. So far, so good. The server promptly provided menus and drinks. So far, so good. I ordered one of... More

The food was fast and average. Steady waiting lines - coasting on previous reputation. Fried eggs and french toast was greasy.
