Wonderful meal

I had friends visiting from out of town and decided to try Chef Wayne's. We all had different dishes and they were all excellent. I had the Mississippi Chicken, one friend had fried catfish (a special, not on the regular menu) and the other friend had shrimp and chicken jambalaya. The atmosphere is... read more

My husband and I recently had lunch at Mamou's. My husband loves Creole & Cajun food, it can be a little too hot for my liking. The restaurant was very small & hot, we were told that one of air conditioning units wasn't working. We ordered our food I requested that my meal be less spicey...if possible. My request was... Two of our favorite cuisines are Creole and Cajun. I was totally shocked to find these cuisines in one restaurant in Springfield, MA and the chef is from Haryford, CT. Go figure. His talent in the kitchen was terrific and comparable to some of our favorite New Orleans spots. Everything that we ate was spot on and the dishes that... More

We haven't been to Chef Wayne's in many many years but when friends suggested it for a change, we said "why not?" We arrived at 6pm on a Friday. Only a few tables were taken so we were able to sit right away. This isn't a big place but there were only two waitresses working the whole dining room. Their... More

After more than ten years of delicious meals and good times with friends at the Big Mamou, it's way past time to give Chef Wayne a shout out! Coming back up North always includes a BYOB get together over wicked good Cajun food in this compact, laid back, downtown gem. We've probably sampled every special and menu item Chef Wayne... More

Just OK if you're starved. Otherwise explore other food places, i.e. Hot Table, Food Court close to Mass Convention Center. I guess one has to develop a taste for southern cuisine.

Have a business associate and friend who comes in for lunch every 6 weeks or so. This nice little place is always our first choice. We usually order the same thing, starting off with crab cakes then seafood jambalaya with extra cornbread. Never had a bad meal in the many times we've been there. It's always busy but the food... I love Big Mamou. It's small and chatty, love you can bring your own bottle of wine. The ice tea is wonderful. The cornbread is great and I get it every time I go there. My husband gets the bourbon bread putting every time he goes. The other guests are friendly and share conversations.

Yep, Cajun-style cuisine in Springfield. If you are downtown in the area of the convention center you can build up your appetite by walkI got. There is a short stretch that requires being cognizant of your surroundings and if you are walking alone you may want to think about driving or catching a taxi. My dining companion is from Louisiana... More
