Good food

I was in Springfield for a professional meeting and went to Max's Tavern for dinner. It definitely is one of the best places to dine in the Springfield area. I had steak, others in my party had fish; everyone enjoyed their dinner. Service was quite slow, so be prepared to wait.

we stopped in for a late dinner on a Thursday night. While it was busy we were able to get a table near the bar. The service was outstanding. We had an incredible raw bar platter and tuna tacos. Delicious! Our waitress Andrea was super friendly and attentive. A very minor issue with part of our order prompted an immediate... More

Four of us stopped there for dinner around 1830 on a Saturday evening. Our reservations were honored immediately. The place was crowded. The wait staff was overall good, though our waiter neglected to bring a requested item until reminded. He also brought the wrong bill to our table. Nothing major. I shared a Caesar salad which was mediocre. The lobster... More

As we all know the waiter or waitress can make or break your meal. Our waitress, Rachel, was up there with the best of them. She not only knew the menu, she was attentive, friendly and her descriptions of the dishes were spot-on. I started with the Butternut and Kale, which was very fresh, just a little too much kale... While it's a typical steak house, they have much more. The wait staff are excellent. They really make it a dining experience rather than just a meal. Great for a fancy night out, but you don't need to dress up. Only nice casual clothes. Or go ahead an dress up.

I have been going to Max's Tavern for 10 years now and I have never been disappointed. The service has always been top notch and friendly. The menu doesn't change often, but then neither does the quality...it's outstanding. Great specials while seated in the bar area. Many times I create my own entree. Try the buffalo shrimp on a Caesar... More

Stopped for a late lunch after touring the basketball hall of fame. Had some burgers a chicken sandwich and a Caesar salad. The burgers were ok. The jerk chicken sandwich was a small piece of chicken tucked in a large bun. Meager Fixins on the sandwich. The ceased salad came out with goopy thick dressing and no Parmesan cheese. When... More

Friendly service and great attitude. We were a business group of 7, and they got us in quickly. Wait staff were great and water glasses were constantly filled. Food was outstanding, and the filet was in line with Morton's or the Chop House.

Had to make a family trip to Springfield for the weekend. Found Max's through tripadvisor. Very pleased with the meal and the ambience. Started with an appetizer special -- tempura shrimp -- wonderful! My wife had the Filet Oscar and I had the grilled Monk Fish. Both were excellent! Perfectly cooked, and the sweet potato fries were the best I've... More
