My New Favorite Restaurant

We really enjoyed our meal at the Student Prince. And the ambience and old world charm of the restaurant and bar made for a lovely atmosphere with the exception of the back room where we were seated. I was a part of a medium sized group stayin in town for a training trip. We were placedin the back room and waited on by two great hosts. New menu comin with new chef. Gret atmosphere with great food. The beer menu is expansive and can cover all thier foods with a paired brew. I do recommend this as... More

I have been going to the Fort for 25 plus years. It recently underwent a large remodel. The old was great, the new is as good.

The atmosphere is wonderful. There's a huge beer stein collection to look at, which was pretty cool. There were even some stained glass windows. The parking situation is a little rough, but we found a lot nearby to park in because the street spots were all full. I really did enjoy the overall experience, but being a vegetarian, there wasn't... More

Found the Student Prince while wandering downtown during a recent stay at the Springfield Marriott (two blocks away). Excellent beer selection and bar (try an Orange Blossom Margarita). Great atmosphere: wood paneling, intimate lighting, cozy booths, very Alpine hunting lodge, with stained glass, a huge stein collection, and period photos and art decorating the place. Ended up dining there twice... More

Nice change of pace to have German menu in a wood paneled dining room with stained glass. Great on tap German brews. Food was tasty and service good on a Sunday Eve when many other eateries in the area are closed.

The Fort lives on, and that is good for Springfield, the area and residents and visitors alike. It's an iconic place full of the spirits of memories, business deals, celebrations, consolations and just good cheer. The menu has been pared down, the wine list shortened and discreet efforts have been made to keep it on a firm financial footing. What... More

we are glad that you enjoyed the somewhat remodeled Student Prince. We will continue serving our classic German and New English dishes. Some additions have been made to the decor and the menu to add a bit more of a twenty-first century element into the almost eighty year old establishment. Your writings very much appreciated. Hopefully you will make the... More

After patronizing The Student Prince since June of 1990, it was a sad day last summer when we stopped in for one last beer and some appetizers that were being served before the doors of this venerable place closed forever. But shortly therafter came word of a risky but hoped for rescue that would bring this institution back to life,... More

I've been going to this restaurant since the 1960s, when my parents took us as kids. The recent change in ownership restored and saved an institution. First time back, we found pro service, excellent German entrees, authentic decor as always. Just go.

Visited with approx 10 colleagues and a great night was had by all. After a wait of about 10 minutes we were seated in a very large but quiet dining area. Beer orders were taken by a very efficient and friendly waitress, (Italian heritage i think),although i do not remember her name, who also took the order for our starters... More
