Surprised!

Having eaten here before in the past and have been totally disappointed with frozen stuffed pasta from Costco and frozen vegetables...I haven't ventured here in several years. I finally made it back and was pleasantly surprised. Filet was very good. Mushroom stuffed ravioli was on the salty side... read more

If you like stale transfat-laden bricks, Van Winkle and Sons is the place for you. The building was empty. Just our party of six and that waitress, all other tables unoccupied, and presumably a mason. I say mason because the specialty was the creation of bricks. Most notably the beer battered halibut. I could barely swallow the bite I did... More

The food as fine but very overpriced for what you got. The one staff member did a great job and was very good at her craft. I will not return as it is not worth the price!

I didn't realize this was a restaurant until someone told me it was! Very plain looking on the outside, but very nice inside with linen tablecloths, and a beautiful view of Sitka Sound. The four of us came near closing time, but the staff treated us as if we were no bother. The clam chowder was delicious, as was everything... More

Our last night in Sitka led us here for dinner on a Monday night. The place was busier than I think they had expected, and they were understaffed (one server doing everything but cooking!). We felt bad for her! Great view. Nothing is too fancy in Sitka, so no need to get gussied up. Food was less than good. Nothing... More

We didn't expect gourmet, but didn't finish either of the specials we ordered and we were hungry after a day of biking and hiking Sitka. The salmon cakes had no flavor and were mostly breading. The fish in the halibut enchiladas could have been any fish and it was a gelatinous mess when it cooled only slightly. Even the potatoes... More

The first dinner on vacation should always be one of the best on the trip. Last night we ate here and Van Winkle and Son lived up to that ideal. We had the special, salmon with a pesto covering, thin sliced potatoes, sea food chowder. The chowder had a great taste, not to thick. The salmon was so good. The... More

This restaurant is upstairs near the bridge and very welcoming, efficient with helpful staff. It's not cheap as it works out to be approx. $30 per plate including tax but the food is very enjoyable and generous! Bread, butter and water arrived promptly with menus. All meals and 'specials' were happily explained. We shared prawns and water chestnuts wrapped in... More

A little hard to find for first timers, but worth the "hunt". The menu is American with the emphasis on Alaskan specialties. The waitresses are friendly and helpful. And the view is all-Alaskan harbor view.
