We had dinner here while staying at the Mimslyn. The place was very clean and a nice light jazz band was playing. Service was very good. The food was average at best. I had the grilled trout that was very strong and fishy tasting. Not good. My wife had a steak which was some better but not what we were... More

Went here for drinks after dinner. It was located across the street from our own hotel so that was convenient. While the ambiance isn't the best, it was a rollicking good time. Musician kept the crowd entertained. Beers were reasonably priced. You could do a lot worse than the Speakeasy.

What a nice wonderful little place to go have dinner. Was told we should have dinner there by some locals and wow. I would have never knew about this nice hidden gem if it was not for the locals as is is not much advertisement for it. Located inside of the Mimslin Inn (Spelling)? Live music, great food, nice friendly... More

We come to the speakeasy a few times a month. The service is always excellent, but unfortunately, tonight the food was lacking! We sent back a burger that didn't taste right and later our creme brûlée was only torched a quarter sized area in the center..thankfully Amber was wonderful, and made our evening out more enjoyable!

The Speakeasy is in the bottom level of the Mimslyn Inn. It has a bar with booths surrounding the outer perimeter of the room so it definitely has a more casual atmosphere than the restaurant upstairs (Circa 31) but it is a very quiet, quaint atmosphere. I got the meatloaf and my wife got the filet tips. Neither portion was... More

Apart from the (closed) Circa restaurant at Mimslyn, this was the best rated place to eat in town, at least from online ratings. The meatloaf was astoundingly good, and is one of their specialties. Everything was fresh and appropriately cooked. We visited the Visitor Center in Luray, and followed their recommendation for where to have another meal... the Gathering Place,... More

Cold fries and greasy wings. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing because this was a pretty upscale bar.

We went on a Saturday evening. We ordered the fried green tomatoes appetizer for $7. There were only three slices of tomato and they tasted greasy, the manager removed these from our bill. The sauce was good, however. I had the steak tips and my husband had the meatloaf. They were both good but the portion sizes were small for... More

We stopped at the Speakeasy for drinks and snacks. We had the house made chips and garlic/onion dip as well as the fried green tomatoes. Both were quite nice. The bartender, David, kept us entertained for several hours with hilarious conversation and seemed to have a great rapport with everyone who entered the bar.

If you're expecting a really cool place with candlelight and a secret password to get in.... you're barking up the wrong 'tree'. This is an 'eh' restaurant in the basement of a rather pretty hotel. I've been to other speakeasys, this was a disappointment. Drink menu was very limited and did not contain any of the common "1920's" drinks on... More
