The bar needs some help.....really

My wife and I were staying at the Mimslyn Inn and were delighted to find that hotel had a quaint place to eat and have a drink. the atmosphere is nice but the service just was not what I would have thought it should have been. Long waits for food and the bar tender post was often deserted. The... read more

We dined at The Speakeasy one weekend while visiting Luray. The food was moderately priced and not bad. There was also live music, which was pretty good. We would go back, seeing that your options are limited in the town.

We stayed at the Mimslyn during the week and needed somewhere to eat. We looked at the menu and decided the Speakeasy looked good. The staff are very friendly, and the food was delicious. I had the chicken saltimbocca and it was fantastic! Really nice place to eat, would definitely eat there again.

Good quality, good prices, relaxing location with live music. Warm welcoming atmosphere. Nothing unique.

It was a cold and windy winter night. Downtown Luray looked absolutely deserted. The Speakeasy, however, was full of an obviously local crowd. Everybody seemed to know everybody. Two musicians were pretty good compared to most bar singers. Figuring that we should stick to something regional, we both had pulled pork sandwiches that were pretty good and local beers that... I had chicken wrapped in prosciutto, and my wife had the rockfish with risotto. Both entrees were delicious, and my manhattan cocktail hit the spot. Coming from DC, it was nice to eat at a nice restaurant without having to shout across the table. Service was friendly, and the venue (Mimslyn Inn) is impressive.

This was the third restaurant we attempted a late Sunday afternoon lunch at. The first had closed at 3PM, the second had a Closed for Winter sign on the door, and this was what we settled on. A Mistake, for sure. Menu is really an odd assortment of options, no theme or trend, just weird. But the choice I made was... More

Maybe we set the bar too low, but we didn't expect to come here and be wowed by the dining. Were pleasantly surprised! Can't remember exactly what we had but was some form of steak, and it was delicious. There was a loud band, but everyone there seemed to be really enjoying it, dancing and everything. Drinks were good too.... More

Food was all good. Atmosphere was good. The fries were amazing. They were clearly cut and fried just when we ordered. Delicious! I would go again just for the fries.

I have previously given this place a great rating. Unfortunately, things have significantly changed. When we arrived, we were given the "stare down" by staff. There were very few patrons there, so you would've thought they would be bending over backward to get us whatever we needed. We only ordered drinks - two draft beers - and they took forever... More
