Come here for the kitsch, not for the food

Food here is...okay. I wasn't personally wowed by anything there--stick to the usual suspects and you should be okay. The famous dish here are the Saugus Wings (appetizer)--they were good, but difficult to eat, and surprisingly no wet-naps were given post-consumption. Tangerine beef was decent... read more

The Kowloon is a must stop if you like Chinese food. I always go there when I'm in town. Huge menu and huge portions so make sure you are not dieting if you go.

Excellent food, awesome waiter name Kevin. We had their house rice, calamari appetizers and chef specialty seafood exotica. So yummy!

My husband and I have been coming here since we met 35 years ago. Yes, the decor is tacky, but that just adds to the "charm" of this place. It is not gourmet or low-cal food by any stretch, but it's the Americanized Chinese food that we grew to love. We've lived all over the country, and every time we're... More

This restaurant came highly recommended. Though the food was certainly o.k., it was nothing to write home about. Their menu is lengthy with chinese, sushi and thai food. I just got the feeling that sometimes it's better to concentrate on one thing and do it well, rather than try to do everything for everyone and miss the mark. The kitchy... More

As natives of Salem MA, my husband and I have been getting food from Kowloons for decades. While the decor has always been a little tacky, and the waiters almost always rude, the food was worth the negatives. We moved away from New England in 1987 and on every visit back either ate here or got take out. We especially... More

Ok... so Im a bit bias. I have been eating here since I was a little kid. Ive lived all over the United States but still crave the Kowloon and wish it could be shipped down to me. Anytime I am in Massachusetts I eat there at least once a day during my stay. Everything from the drinks, apps to... More

Ambience is the same as always...this restaurant has been around since the Paleolithic Era, I think. They know what they are doing and have a HUGE menu. It's a great place to take a family or group. Typical Asian food and drinks. Interior is very worn but it's a classic old-style Asian restaurant. Just don't look too closely at the... More

I've driven by this place countless times on Rt 1, but today was the first time I actually ate there. We were prompted in large part by my husband and his brother's remembrances of experiences from 20 years ago. The place is huge! We were welcomed immediately and seated promptly. The decor is a dated mix of faux Polynesian and... More
