Good coffee, adequate atmospher....but that customer service...ouch. Perhaps the stress of preparing coffee cup after cup is too harsh on some personalities. Perhaps the vetting process should be more stringent.

We recently went on a trip out west and while we were in Santa Fe, we stopped by Downtown Subscription for pastries and coffee. I ordered a large cappuccino which was in a gigantic cup and was even better than the cappuccino we had in Italy. My husband said his coffee was the best he had ever had. They have... More

I was very surprised when I saw the good reviews for this coffee shop here. I have never been more disappointed or gotten worse service from a business. Please note that I've been here in multiple occasions, so I'm just gonna list a few of my experiences. The staff is not friendly at all, one time I walked in, and they... More

Yes, this coffee is worth the extra $ - it is great coffee with artists working the machines. You can read magazines and lounge outdoors or inside. Always busy and a great meeting place for friends and out of town visitors. Make your way there and you will be rewarded with the best neighborhood coffee shop in SFe.

I go to DS when I'm in the area (mostly for Garcia St Books) and enjoy sitting on the outdoor patio. Its mostly a coffee shop, with a few pre-preapared sandwiches/pastry. The locals do have a bit of an "attitude" and you see lots of social posturing when you are there. (I am a local). But you get a nice... More

Great place for coffee and something to eat, although menu is limited. Hit bookstore next door. Parking a little bit of a pain.

The Downtown Subscription is a slightly misleading name. It is off Canyon Road, having moved from downtown many years ago. It has also significantly reduced its selection of unique reading materials, which used to surround the dining area on three sides (now it is just to the left of the entry and counter). Nevertheless, the DS appears to be mostly... More

Near canyon road this cultural oasis provides nourishment, interesting magazine assortment and people atmosphere. Parking can be limited/tight. Book store and photography gallery/photo book store next door.
