unusual service for an unusual shop

This place technically isn't a restaurant, but we sought it out this week while in Santa Fe because of all the great reviews it had gotten. I had read so many wonderful reviews of this place, so when we visited Santa Fe this was on our "must do" list. The location is great, close to Canyon Road and the service was good. However, we expected that there would be an almost endless selection of chocolate in all forms. This is not the case. Selection is small,... More

We had seen this on TA, but did not expect to go. Drove by by accident, whipped a U and stopped in. Asking about the different chocolates, the owner offered tastes of serveral (w/o being asked). We enjoyed our drinks. I asked the counter girl for directions and she whipped out her IPad, and mapped it out. How nice to... More

This sipping chocolate is made from 70-100% cocoa, so not all the flavors are very sweet. There are some that have the traditional chilis added and some that do not. You can try all the flavors for free and even have them mixed if you want to purchase a cup. It costs the same as a latte at the local... More

Thank you, Tony, for the amazing experience. It was a treat in all possible definitions. We walked into Kakawa following the excellent tripadvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. Coming early in the morning had the advantage that for most of the time we were alone in the shop. This allowed me to get into Cocoa Zen Mode. We were allowed... More

Sure the cases are full of chocolate-laced treats but the hot chocolate is not to be missed. This is the real deal not some stupid Swiss Miss. The staff here is knowledgeable and encouraging as you learn about the roots of chocolate in Aztec and other cultures. We tasted several hot chocolates and each time the counter server said, "Oh,... You have to find this place if you love chocolate. They have chocolate drinks (not hot chocolate with marshmellows) that are unusual and great. and they insist you taste them Candy is unusual and outstanding. The brownie....ahhhh. Best I ever had (excepting yours, Mom).

I had their malt and bourbon ice cream, but tasted their hot chocolate. Too many wonderful possibilities to choose from! Mind you, the jar of fudge sauce I bought was not allowed through airport security. A threat to national security. But I thought it well worth the extra time to check in my bag to be able to salvage it.

Yum. Free samples of chocolate drinks. $35.00 in candy. What else can I say? We bought sea salt caramels, and chocolate covered pistashcio nuts.

So glad we visited. I had a chili elixir and bought some fantastically unique and delicious chocolates to bring home with me.
