African food, gifts, and friendliness

The Kenyan owner and his wife watch over the making of creative African food (and some Caribbean). Before or after, you can shop for fascinating things in the adjacent shop. Definitely a place not to miss whether you're a tourist or a native.

Jambo is located in an ordinary shopping mall, but the food and atmosphere isn't ordinary. I had a very good jerk chicken sandwich on fresh pita; my husband had a lamb sandwich with a good mint-yogurt sauce. Great fries: cumin-flavored and sweet potato. We shared an outstanding seafood soup: great balance of flavors. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The... More

We've eaten at Jambo 4 or 5 times now, and will probably go back, though the hype is way over the top. It's okay food, sort of African with a health-food touch, not expensive, friendly service, friendly clientele, lots to recommend it. But don't expect anything special in the food line. All the curry dishes taste pretty much the same.... More

Our visits have always been enjoyable - from the interactions with the staff to the service time to the quality of food. Our African kids love the tastes of their home countries and we have never left disappointed. A trip to Jambo Cafe is never complete without a stroll through Jambo Imports where a variety of spices are available in... More

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary to eat, this is the place. Jambo' s has a very creative African/Caribbean menu with many interesting dishes. We had the meat soup & stuff phyllo to start. Then, we had the Jerk Chicken and Coconut Chicken Curry. We liked the Jerk Chicken better. The Chicken Curry is good if... More

Our initial server was something of a sourpuss who seemed to be phoning it in. But, she took the order and brought us drinks. From then on we had good to superlative service from the other three members of the team. The food was wonderfully tasty and enough to satisfy our hunger. The ambiance was okay, a little dated and... My husband and I had lunch here the other day and the food was excellent! Parking was a snap: always an issue in Santa Fe. The only down sides were a typically-surly Santa Fe waitress who couldn't be bothered telling us about the specials and could barely manage a half-hearted smile and a less-than-clean uni-sex restroom. But the food was... More

This unassuming place in a strip mall is great. In a town where good restaurants are on every corner, they have made a name for themselves. I went on recommendation from friends and didn't see how highly rated they were until after the experience. Guy was on the Wall, so I guess it's a DDD joint too. The service is... More

Food was perfect, portions good and atmosphere nice and unpretentious. We had a range of dishes including chicken stew, goat curry, lentil stew and grilled fish. All would order again. The roti was a good choice as the side. Flaky and moist.
