Afro-Caribbean Fare in Santa Fe

Jambo Cafe is a very popular eatery, especially among locals who can find it in a strip shopping center on Santa Fe's most commercial street. I was glad when it was expanded a couple of years ago - a shorter wait to dine on very good food at very reasonable prices.

"Safi kabisa,"in Swahli essentially means fantastic! And that's a perfect way to describe our meal at the Jambo Cafe.

The hardest thing about eating at Jambo Cafe is deciding what to eat from the many, many enticing choices, all exotic but not over blown. On top of the terrific food is the staff: warm, friendly, low key, always helpful. And the owner is a trip, watching over the restaurant like a conductor. He walks his talk.

This is a local's favorite from Africa. Cannot be beaten; try all soups and any and all combinations. Jubilation follows! Ahmed Obo (owner/master chef) is a wonderful person and glad to meet you and to share the warm and friendly space that is "Jambo." Alexis Johnson

I have literally never had anything here that wasn't outstanding. The spicing is masterul. Every bite elicits a sigh and the sweet potato fries are absolutely amazing!

After reading how Jambo Cafe had won "Best International Restaurant" 5 years in a row by the readers of The Santa Fe Reporter, we had to try it. Now it is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is amazing! I have never had anything here that I didn't love. My favorite appetizer is the Savory Stuffed Phyllo, and our... More

I have lived in Santa Fe 37 years and never thought that a restaurant that specializes in African food would be a hit in this city. Oh how wrong I was. I cannot remember a time when I visited Jambo and their wasn't almost a full house or a line waiting at the front door. Lamb based dishes are their... More

After eating here once, my wife and I came back a second time for the outstanding Moroccan Lamb Stew, fried cornmeal plantain crab cakes and cinnamon-dusted plantains with pineapple curry dipping sauce. Host Ahmed Obo is charming, provided great service and good dining recommendations. It was someone's birthday and he trotted out an African Drum to play, which delighted everyone.... More

It is hard not to like a place that is so happy. Drums can be heard when someone is celebrating. It is not fancy, and the food is better than average with ample helpings. Goat stew is one of their stand out dishes and I do like goat. There were six of us and everyone had something different. Each dish... More
