Built as an addition to the original hotel and later remodeled by San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres in 1912, the Colonial Room Restaurant reflects the prevailing neoclassical style of its time. Decades of elaborate balls and parties have been hosted in this room.Among the celebrities who have dined here are Presidents Grant and McKinley, Robert E. Lee, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Colonial Room Restaurant's famous mango ice cream was served at both of President Clinton’s inaugurations. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Colonial Room Restaurant features a fabulous noontime brunch and traditional entrees such as prime rib au jus and lamb shank with linguini. Don't miss the popular Sunday brunch buffet, which tastes even better at a table in the garden courtyard.

They are a great place for a quick brunch. We had the buffet which works great for little kids. The food was average. The location is great. It's nice to have a walk to the Alamo after breakfast. The service was good. We eat brunch here every time we go to San Antonio.

We had a very decadent supper with great service that made the start of our vacation very special. The escargot appetizer was the best we have had. The entrees were well prepared. The Creme Brulee was deliciously memorable.

We actually tried to go to the bar but it was closed that day. Since we were there we just went into the hotel restaurant. It looked like a fairly fancy place but the lunch was a buffet. We looked at the buffet and decided to ask if we could just do the soup and salad bar which they let... More

Wanted to go more for the atmosphere. I didn't have high expectations for the food but we (party of 4) were surprised & delighted! Started with cold smoked salmon. (Best since New York) Veal with mushroom sauce was delicious. Chicken piccata was very tasty. Freshly baked potatoes were wrapped in a flakey, light, pastry that was fantastic to the taste... More

I loved the fact that this restaurant is located in the Menger hotel which made it convenient while staying there. It had white linen tablecloths and the service was excellent. A little dressier than restaurants I usually go to but while staying at the Menger I would splurge. I got the tortilla soup for a starter and it was very... More

Incredibly this restaurant has a myriad of good reviews. I guess it's possible that we just caught the colonial room on a bad night. A really terrible, stunningly bad night. We walked into an almost entirely empty restaurant, where we there was no one attending the front desk. We waited and after a few minutes we almost missed the whole... More

My wife and I dined at the Colonial Room Restaurant while staying at the Menger Hotel over the New Year holiday. We had the lunch brunch and it was small but very tasty. Salmon and London broil were the meat choices, beans and garlic potatoes were the vegetable choices. A couple of salads and soups were also offered, as well... More

We had a late lunch. The sandwiches were quite good. The bread was fresh. I would order mine again. The french fries were the spicy, peppered kind. Cajun seasoning? They were nice but probably of the frozen kind. Now teh desert, the mango ice cream, was excellent.

We were in San Antonio for our son's air force BMT graduation. He was lucky to have town liberty on Sunday so we wanted to find an extra nice place for brunch. Of course we forgot that we would likely need a reservation on a busy weekend. Thank you so much to the hostess who set up an extra table... More
