When in San Antonio for a business conference, we selected Acenar on the Riverwalk at Houston Street mainly due to the very positive reviews from TripAdvisor. They have a large bar area, inside dining and a patio seating overlooking the river. The decor inside is contemporary but rather bland. The bar area and inside dining room were not crowded, but... Victoria (at the Sheraton Gunter Hotel) recommended this place and we walked from the hotel, past it and down to the Riverwalk to check the outside ambiance. There were a few tables left outside by the river, and it was a pleasant Sunday evening, so we decided to go ahead and try it. By the time we got inside to... More

This was my first time eating at Acenar. The restaurant is very nice inside and the patio area is also nice. I chose to sit outside. I like that it's not crowded with a bunch of restaurants and other diners like so many restaurants on the Riverwalk. The meal was terrific and the service was too. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The server recommended the Duck Tinga Chalupa and my husband ordered the Crab Tinga Taco with cilantro rice (instead of the regular mexican rice) and black beans. The chalupa dish isn't what you would expect, it was a flavorful duck dish on top of a big round tortilla. The cilantro rice was really delicious. As for drinks, we had the... More

My husband and I intended to eat in the bar of the hotel next door to Acenar. We were hungry for fish tacos. The only waiter in the hotel bar was the bartender, so we opted to go to Acenar. The server that we had was excellent, and we had some great fish tacos! We will return!

As a resident of San Antonio, I take friends and family to Acenar on a regular basis. The Mexican Food served is authentic, delicious, fresh, and widely varied. Yes, you can get the classic texmex enchilada plate, if your part of the country doesn't have such a thing, but there is so much more!! Great fish tacos, fresh seafood presentations... More

The manager at this restaurant thought he should slow down our bar service (no one had even been served any drinks yet) because he thought one person in our party of 11 was drunk. We planned on eating dinner here (it was around 6:45pm) and then we were going to explore the riverwalk. The girl in question was not drunk,... More

The bar upstairs is very uninviting but the riverside terrace restaurant is very nice, and as it's adjacent to the Valencia is just round the corner from the main Riverwalk loop, offering a quieter location. Excellent and reasonably priced food, with good veggie options, and a reasonable wine list. Best guacamole in San Antonio prepared at your table. Great service.... More

Acenar is right on the River Walk. I had to look at the sign a couple of times to make sure I was in the right place. The sign is somewhat confusing and hard to read. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon, watching the world go by. Staff seated me immediately and there was about 4 other couples outside... More

Went here for lunch. Both got the grilled fish tacos. Good deal and good food. Unusual black bean salsa. Very good for me but not for my wife. Fish tacos had a nice piece of fish in each one (3). Nice location on the river.
