A high class joint

Excellent food. Many great sauces are a mixture of French and Mexican influence. A luxurious-atmosphere restaurant. Excellent personal service by owner, Ernesto. No need for menu, the owner will take care of you. I wish we had not been pressed for time.

Chips were thick n a bit hard/crunchy, green sauce was good but mussed traditional salsa. Super chalupas were tasty n fresh. My friend liked her chicken tacos al carbon with a nice portion of guacamole. It doesn't look like a Mexican food place, more like a lounge/former Chinese buffet with lounge music playing. Service was friendly and prompt.

Food and atmosphere both amazing. I had the shrimp, chicken and steak kabobs with orange glaze. For dessert, cinnamon ice cream with praline sauce. Omg the food was so good!!!!

Exceeded our expectations. The best service we've ever had anywhere. Food was beyond wonderful. A mix of traditional Mexican and exciting new way of having Mexican food. Chips and salsa very tasty. Desserts scrumptious

This is not standard Mexican fare by any means. The owner/chef is from Monterrey, and trained in French cuisine. He has developed a range of Mexican sauces that complement his authentic and well-prepared meals. His fried oysters, ceviche, red snapper, crabmeat and shrimp preparations were all distinctive. San Antonio's Mexican restaurants are better than any other American city we know,... More

Attended a birthday party at Ernesto's last night with about 12 people. Attentive service with all the wait staff helping including Ernesto of course. He is a talented man with over 35 years of cooking experience and once ran several upscale restaurants in San Antonio. I had the red snapper which is offered grilled or baked. I went with the... I ended up at Ernesto's after being severely disappointed at one of the most recommended restaurants on River Walk. This area is entertaining to walk around and have a drink but not to eat. Picked Ernesto's from TripAdvisor after scrolling through many expensive Mexican restaurants with mediocre reviews. I went with the intention of having some fish but the Steak... More

It was prime time meal rush and my friend and I wanted to eat Mexican food. Somehow we looked at yelp reviews and drove here. There was plenty of parking at night around 8pm (yes we got there late). Surprisingly, this Mexican restaurant wasn't super super packed and crazy (probably due to the location). Inside the restaurant was a beautiful... More

This is not a chain. This is not traditional Mexican food. This is not a fast food restaurant. Now that we have that out of the way . . . this charming family run restaurant carries on the tradition of recipes perfected by Ernesto over 30 years ago. On a typical evening, you will find Ernesto, his wife, son(s), daughter-in-law,... More

Decided to try Ernesto's based on Tripadvisor comments. Boy oh boy, am I glad we did! If you're looking for regular TexMex food, this place isn't for you. Likewise if you want a fast meal. This is fine dining Mexican cuisine with a bit of a French flair. Ernesto himself greeted us and described IN DEPTH his dishes, recipes and... More
