Everything a great deli should be

Everything a great deli should be: accessible, good staff, quick, and delicious. We had the split pea soup (creamy, thick, and bowl-licking worthy), the Reuben sandwich (lots of layers of meat with a tangy sauce), and the homemade root beer which I would come here just for that alone! We bought... read more

This is a nice little place to stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We were there for lunch and the food was good. I had a club sandwich and my husband had their famous reuben. Both were good. I also had their famous rootbeer and it is the BEST!! You get a free refill too! At the last minute I... More

We stood in line for 45 minutes for our party of 5 to be seated. It was worth the wait. The sandwiches were fresh and good-sized and the homemade root beer was excellent. The waitress was good considering the restaurant was packed.

Scilo's Deli provides for a nice little good German cuisine with the family owned touch. Good service, reasonably priced, but the menu is limited (unfortunately). I do suppose that helps with the speedy serivice. You can still get the all time favorite schnitzel and home fries and it is absolutely delicious (with some heavy weitzen refreshment and all for a... This deli is the real thing. We ate dinner there, and although it is more of a lunch place, fully enjoyed it. The Ruben was authentic, and the mustard was hot if you wanted it, they also had regular. Potato salad was warm and delicious. Wife had potato pancakes, and they were very good. Root beer is authentic and sweet.... More

German over tones and has magnificent onsite made Root Beer and Pea soup. Within walking distance of the Alamo and just up the banks from the San Antonio river.

Crowded at lunch, but there is usually a spot at the counter if you can't get a table. Good cabbage and sausage the day I was there, but the split pea soup was the piece de resistance. A little noisy with the lunch crowd of downtown workers, but pretty calm around 1:30 PM. Great access to the Riverwalk.

We had a delicious lunch here. It's like walking into a time warp. The sausage and cheese were very good. It's a nice break to all the tex-mex that is everywhere.

Noisy is the first thing that comes to mind - you pay extra to get gravy for the weinerschnitzel, and the Reuben came on toasted white bread and there was no Thousand Island dressing on it either.
