Longstanding German deli

I had the sampler with 3 different sausages and 2 cheeses. Not crowded at 3 pm so service quick and friendly. Vera was great waitress. I have had better polish kielbasa but bratwurst good and wife had Reuben with home cut cabbage. Homemade cheesecake and bread pudding. Less than 20$

The locals have known about Schilo's for decades, in fact, my parents used to eat there. Not a New York style deli, but a San Antonio style deli. Come in, sit down and enjoy something delicious. It's right on Commerce street, up the riverwalk stairs from Casa Rio Mexican Restaurant. Know for Ruben Sandwiches, Pea Soup and homemade Root Beer.... More

Danke shoen Papa Fritz for giving us over 100 years of tasty treats. THE ROOT BEER. In a cold frosty mug, so good you'll want a pitcher for yourself. The Rye bread, good with everything. Ruben sandwiches. Split pea soup, SA's finest. Knockwurst and world famous Schilo's Hot Mustard, oh my goodness! So good. Suprisingly, the weinerschnitzel, although it's pork,... More

This place has some very good German food which was a huge surprise for San Antonio. Wait staff are quick, experienced and eager to serve. Food was fantastic and unique.

A classic German deli only two blocks from the Alamo. This day we had a light lunch. The hot German potato salad was quite good. The hot pastrami with Swiss was good but me made pine for an actual Reuben. They have a zesty house German hot mustard, enough to open your sinuses. The house root beer, usually so good... More

Any place that has been in operation for close to 100 years has to be good! I loved the old-time feel of the place and it really and truely services deli food. I got a Rueben and it was delightful.

Terrible slow service even though there were several servers who stood around doing nothing all the time we were there. The German food was not very good or authentic. My bratwurst had not been browned at all and was lukewarm. The potato salad was mashed potatoes with a few other bits of vegetable matter mixed in. My German Grandmother would... More

Thank you for your review, as they help us improve. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but we do hope you walk back in so we can change your mind. Most of our recipes originate from Papa Fritz Schilo who opened the deli in 1917 and we do our best to remain authentic. Thank you again for your review! More

HAd light lunch with sausage/cheese plate and the homemade root beer.. Loved the root beer! Cheese was served thin sliced so could make stacked bites with bread. Nice choices of sausage, cheese and bread. Cool atmosphere, great stop!

Reuben sandwich was fantastic. The blackberry cobbler with ice cream was to die for! Worth finding this place! Casual and relaxing.
