This place has really good German food at a decent price. I love their jager schnitzel. It's at street level, which means it isn't quite as crowded as the Riverwalk eateries. This is a historic place so expect some ambiance with your meal.

I had breakfast there twice. It has good American/German style food. If you are looking for a traditional country style breakfast, try this place.

I fell in love with the cheesecake and pea soup thirty-some years ago, and so I was glad to re-visit San Antonio's downtown and see Schilo's is still in business and using the same delicious recipes. Loved seeing the original tile floors and returning a second time to try the bread pudding, too!

I always visit when I am in town and would suggest you try the pea soup, Reuben and homemade root beer. A San Antonio institution. Highly recommended.

Really nice, large German deli a few steps off the Riverwalk. We had two great sandwiches and great service. A value - definitely would visit again.

You can't beat Schilo's! It is right downtown on Commerce. Climb up from the Riverwalk and go here - a haven for tourists & locals alike. It has great German fare at downright cheap prices. You'll get a great meal with good German beer for a lot less than along the Riverwalk in a setting that doesn't just evoke the... More

Stopped by on a Saturday morning for breakfast. The waiter came by and took our order and brought us coffee and tea. Everything going good so far. However after 4 cups of coffee we still didn't have our breakfast. We waited over 20 minutes. Finally it came and the hash browns were not hot and crispy. The top pancake was... More

We try to stop by Schilo's every time we are in town. We enjoy everything on the menu and the split pea soup is very good. Our favorite item is their homemade hot mustard. We always bring home a couple of large jars. It goes great with just about anything.

After viewing the menu outside, which we appreciate in a restaurant, we decided to have lunch here. The décor isn't exactly deli, but it is interesting. The food is reasonably priced, but the serving size was small. We had the lunch plates, one ham and one beef tongue. The rye bread that came with the meal was the best part.... More

Just a few blocks from the Marriott Hotels on East Commerce Street, Schilo's, a 1917 vintage eatery, offers all of the benefits of a delicatessen with German roots. Try the Bratwurst and egg breakfast or the potato pancakes with two eggs and sausage. The biscuits are Texas-sized and delicious. The service is down-home and comes with a smile.
