Not having enough funds or energy for a day trip to the hill country or the right weather for the coast, my wife and I looked for an adventure at home and found one. We took a short bus ride from downtown San Antonio (route 10) up Broadway to Van's. We flipped a coin to see which restaurant we would... More

Upon walking up to this restaurant, it's hard to make yourself go in. The outside just screams "you will get sick here" but I tried it anyway. When you enter, it seems like you are entering an unorganized wine outlet that also sells Chinese treats with crummy tables topped with upscale porcelain dishes. To the back there is a long... More

The service was so slow that we almost left. 15 min for spring rolls, with no notice of the wait. We asked about the entree after 20 min. and the waiter said a couple of minutes, with an underlying rude tone. 10 minutes later (yes, I actually had the timer going on my phone) we asked again and this time... I went to Van's because I had heard great things about it. Appartently, the restaurant has changed because it was awful. Bland, tasteless and seemed stale. The Spring Rolls had a sour taste in them (I think it may have been rotten mushrooms), they were not crunchy and seemed more like egg rolls then Vietnamese Spring Rolls. The lemon chicken... More

Frommer's recommended. Neighborhood looked questionable. Had spring rolls and pork vermicelli and it was a pleasant experience. I would go back.

If a place can't even make good Spring rolls... why do they exist? The food her is way substandard. They have a nice waitstaff, even if they aren't efficient, but it doesn't make up for the poorly prepared, stale gruel theat they try to pawn off as food. Although, it could prevent someone from starving, I can't give it any... More

Very friendly staff and fine food throughout the years. Live varieties of shell fish and Lobster and crab cooked to order in various Asian styles. Original food designs to please even a native Asian taste. Well recommended for some of the best Asin in San Antonio, Texas.

We did not have the seafood so maybe that's good but the food we did have-- tofu with vegetables, hot/sour soup-- was horrible. It was as if someone took a bottle of soy sauce and poured it into EVERYTHING. We also tried the vermicelli and that technique was probably also applied. As an asian person, I would not call this... I've only been there once, but I enjoyed the experience. I found a new favorite wine and the food was great!
