Not a "Must Do" restaurant to visit.

My boss elected this restaurant for lunch one day, and is she regretting it still. Only three of us were at lunch, on a Tuesday. The place looks more like a wine cellar, than a Vietnamese restaurant. A very informal restaurant with authentic Vietnamese cuisine. I like that Vans does not Americanize their food and stays true. We enjoyed Pho Soup and Tofu which was fantastic. Tofu had great flavor and texture. Expect casual service and not fancy but nice staff and good food.

I love this place our family goes to eat there at least two or three times a month. Very fresh sea food and a great wine list. We always get salted peppercorn shrimp

I don't want to say it's the worst I've had but it's not that good. In fact, I am giving it a 3 just because the service was friendly. Other than that, I will not be returning here. Wish it could have been better.

Chef Van is superb in his seafood dishes (my favorite is Oysters anyway he chooses) but the real secret is his wine list..If he dose not have your request, it hasn't been bottled!

Not having enough funds or energy for a day trip to the hill country or the right weather for the coast, my wife and I looked for an adventure at home and found one. We took a short bus ride from downtown San Antonio (route 10) up Broadway to Van's. We flipped a coin to see which restaurant we would... More

Upon walking up to this restaurant, it's hard to make yourself go in. The outside just screams "you will get sick here" but I tried it anyway. When you enter, it seems like you are entering an unorganized wine outlet that also sells Chinese treats with crummy tables topped with upscale porcelain dishes. To the back there is a long... More

The service was so slow that we almost left. 15 min for spring rolls, with no notice of the wait. We asked about the entree after 20 min. and the waiter said a couple of minutes, with an underlying rude tone. 10 minutes later (yes, I actually had the timer going on my phone) we asked again and this time... I went to Van's because I had heard great things about it. Appartently, the restaurant has changed because it was awful. Bland, tasteless and seemed stale. The Spring Rolls had a sour taste in them (I think it may have been rotten mushrooms), they were not crunchy and seemed more like egg rolls then Vietnamese Spring Rolls. The lemon chicken... More
