Located just a few minutes from downtown in architecturally rich Monte Vista, La Fonda on Main is the oldest Mexican food restaurant in San Antonio. La Fonda serves both the best of Tex-Mex cuisine as well as authentic dishes of interior Mexico in a fun and casual setting with beautiful patio dining. Open daily serving lunch and dinner as well as a memorable Sunday brunch menu, we offer a full bar with a wide variety of liquor, beer and wine. Our famous margaritas are made with hand-squeezed limes and your choice of a large selection of tequilas.

Great food! Get there early to avoid the crowd.

We ordered ceviche, a couple of the specials rather than the traditional Tex-Mex offerings, and tres leches and flan. All the food was tasty and presented nicely. The waitstaff were helpful, courteous and prompt with our orders. Overall La Fonda was an excellent restaurant choice. Tip, get there... read more

So this was my first time there. I took my family and arrive around 2:25 pm it was not busy but steady. The girl who sat us provided us with water and I ordered a Mimosa for my wife and was told the waiter would bring it. We waited about 10 minutes before he waiter arrived (with no Mimosa) apologizing... More

This restaurant has been around since the 1930s and it probably will never close. The menu has been updated, but they have kept a few old favorites on the menu. Everything here is great!

The ambience in the patio was great, the wind was blowing..... perfect. (don't sit out if flies bother you) Wife says frozen margarita with Don Julio Silverado is great. Guacamole is not the best. I'm just going to stop the plates we had were mediocre at best. So I'm from Mexican descent. This is an modern take on mexican food... More

I've been going to La Fonda on Main since the 1960s, maybe even the 50s. Today's version is the best ever and the owner has gone all-out to make it a place for celebrations and a place that serves some of the best Mexican food in a city filled with excellent choices. The building is beautiful, the décor interesting and... More

The evening started out well enough. We sat outdoors in the beautiful patio. The fresh-squeezed lemonade was so good, had it been free refills, I would have drank until I exploded. The guacamole did not taste fresh and the queso was runny. The entrees were a little disappointing. Two of our party of five did not finish half their meal... More

Dined here early on a Saturday night. It was neither busy nor noisy at this time (6:30p). The meals were good, though we're used to great Tex-Mex in Texas, and so they might be fabulous to those who aren't used to that. What was fabulous, by any measure, was the Kailua tres leches cake. Absolutely not to be missed!

Had a wonderful dinner here....the swordish tacos were outstanding!! Service could have been better but overall I would highly recommend the restaurant. The appetizer combination was very good.

Superb fajitas. But it is very crowded and noisy. I do recommend it.Parking is almost unavailable- the food is worth the wait to be seated and served.

My mom and sister and I went to La Fonda on Main simply because it had good reviews, but now we see that those reviews are all warranted. Our waitress was fantastic and helped us choose absolutely delicious meals. Since it was our first time at the restaurant, she also brought us a free dessert - an excellent Tres Leches... More
