My wife, 7 year-old grandson, and I ate brunch at La Fonda last Sunday. Wow! It was fantastic. We chose a shaded table outside under a sprawling oak. I could not pass up eggs Benedict with duck confit, a new version of eggs Benedict for me. Very tastey, artfully plated. My wife thoroughly enjoyed an omelet Vera Cruz which included... More

While visiting in the Texas Hill Country we wanted to eat some really upscale Mexican food in San Antonio. Good friends had recommended La Fonda on N. Main Street. We made reservations on Open Table. Arriving just before 6 PM, they were not crowded at all, but quickly began to fill and they were essentially full inside before we left,... More

I am not sure what all the great reviews are for. Yes, this is a lovely Mexican Restaurant. It may have a great courtyard and the inside is clean and inviting. The food on the other hand is boring. I had the most bland enchiladas Verde I have ever eaten. The chicken had no seasoning and seemed as if it... More

After a couple of days eating at typical downtown restaurants we stumbled upon this true oasis. I had the tacos de pascado. I was concerned the chef would be heavy handed with the Chipotle mayo to mask the fish but it was a very nice balance. My friend finished with a pumpkin flan that he was extremely pleased with. My... My fiance and I went for dinner here in early September. We sat outside in the courtyard. I felt like I was temporarily transported to an exotic hacienda in a Latin American country. It was a beautiful courtyard! Our server was really nice, super warm and friendly. She gave us a complementary tres leches cake dessert - just because. The... More

I have been to San Antonio many times and was tired of always ending up at the same places. My coworker and I ended up at La Fonda on our last night in SA. It was our best idea all week and we were sorry we didn't have a chance to eat there more than once. Our food was delicious... More

How cool is it to find the best place to go on line and make reservations? Thanks TripAdvisor. I have one word for anyone who wants top-drawer Mexican fare - Tampiquena. Definitely going back next time.

The service and food are always exceptional. The Prickly Pear Margaritas are very good. I always enjoy one of the enchilada plates.

Looked up places to eat in San Antonio and this one popped up. Excellent food! They serve your drinks so nicely! So professional and always attentive to your needs. We reserved a table through Tripadvisor and they called immediately and asked where we would like to sit and they recommended the patio. What a great recommendation! Perfect weather! You must... Basically, as read elsewhere on this place, too expensive for what you get. I had a goat serving that was DRY and tasteless. Took it home and my wife was able to reinvigorate it. My friend's wife did not like the meal she got either: Just did not taste right. My wife's meal was the fish of the day and... More
