We were visiting San Antonio for the day doing the typical tourist excursions around the River Walk. We wanted REALLY good tex-mex food so as fun as the River Walk area was, decided to listen to other posts and after walking the walk, we got in our car and drove to La Fonda on Main. We were so glad we... More

Great food and service. Would recommend LaFonda to anyone visiting the San Antonio area. About 5 minutes from Riverwalk by car.

Not only nice quiet clean environment, but the food tastes are distinctive and very savory. Far better than any on the River Walk or in tourist districts. Well worth the Drive.

On our first night in San Antonio ,a Saturday night during Fiesta, we were unable to get a reservation at any of the places in the Riverwalk area so we checked the guide books and Trip advisor and found La Fonda. It was an $8 cab ride from out hotel but we later found then restaurant in practically on the... More

On our first visit, we chose this place because we were traveling with our two beagles and read it was dog friendly. When we saw it, we thought we must be wrong. We inquired and were told they loved dogs. On the beautiful patio, our dogs were given ice water and dog biscuits. With them happy and tucked away under... More

We were in San Antonio for 3 days, and went to La Fonda on Main around 8 30 pm .The restaurant was hoppin' and we were seated outside in a beautiful courtyard underneath a huge tree. Our waiter was very helpful, and although the ceviche was sold-out, I ordered duck tacos. They were fantastic, and came with a side of... More

Tried this because of the great Tripadvisor reviews. I was not disappointed. I loved the beautiful outdoor area. It was a beautiful hot Spring day and such a great atmosphere. The food was excellent. Both my husband and I had the taco special of the day with tenderloin and shrimp. We were visiting San Antonio for the first time and... More

La Fonda on Main has been a near northside favorite for decades. If you ever lived in San Antonio, odds are you'll see someone you know when you return even decades later! The margaritas are good, and the food is well-prepared and very tasty. Tex-Mex traditions are available, but the cuisine has sharpened as the menu has added more refined... More

I like hole in the wall taco huts with great Tex-Mex. La Fonda is NOT one of those. It serves authentic, well prepared Mexican cuisine in a Mexican ambience inside or out on the patio. Has a full bar with excellent Margaritas, nice wine list, and ice cold beer. So I hesitate before agreeing to go because it is more... More

Tucked away on N. Main is the oldest Mexican restaurant in San Antonio. All the times we've been to this city, and it took Trip Advisor to turn us on to this place. The food was amazing, the service fast and friendly, and the atmosphere quaint and tasteful. This may be the best Mexican food I've ever had. And if... More
