Had a large group (12) but service was excellent as was the food. Everyone was pleased with their selections.

My mother took us to this restaurant for 35 years. She passed in 2010, so it was very nostalgic to go back again. Online reviews are still good, so we had to try it again, since we were already on the River Walk only two miles away, staying at Omni's Mokara Hotel. On Tues. July 29th, we met high school... More

Our family ate at this restaurant based on the TA reviews and we were all disappointed. I guess living in an area where mexican food is common and very good we were not at all impressed with the food. It tasted bland an uninteresting and expensive for the quality of food we received. We would not return.

This joint is a top ten eatery in San Antonio? We have eaten here three times in the past year and have left unimpressed with this place. The owner is a local restauranteur who has been in with the "09" folks for half a century. He presides over the new menu items every Monday. What he should do is increase... More

I had read about La Fonda in Texas Monthly magazine as "the place" to go for Mexican food as an alternative to the touristy places along the Riverwalk. I made our dinner reservation on Open Table & we were seated immediately upon arrival at a round table away from the nosier center of the restaurant for our party of 6... More

This was THE BEST Mexican food we have ever enjoyed in San Antonio. I’m not sure how to describe their cuisine, so I’ll call it Nuevo Tejano. They use some of the basic Tex-Mex ingredients but kick it up several notches with quality and originality. The food was insanely delicious, the wait staff was knowledgeable about the menu, and they... More

Found La Fonda on Trip Advisor. We were in San Antonio for one night and wanted to have an authentic Mexican meal. It was a quick 10 - 15 minute drive from the Drury Hotel where we were staying. La Fonda has been at the same location since 1932. We decided to sit outside since it was a beautiful night.... More

Our group went to celebrate a tennis victory. The restaurant was very accommodating in seating a large group. The menu was a typical Tex/ Mex with a few un-traditional choices. Great variety and wonderful service. Prices were a tad higher than the norm but worth the extra monies. The nachos were individual and the side of guacamole was excellent. The... More

Great service; excellent food. Husband and kids had migas and I had the short ribs tacos. Would definitely come back. Everything looked handmade and well-prepared.

Set in an old spanish style house in a residential neighborhood La Fonda has been serving some of the best Tex Mex/Mex Mex in San Antonio for a long time...and that is hard to say in a city filled with Mexican restaurants. Add to that the most attractive courtyard patio filled with lush tropical greenery and lights strung through old... More
