We returned to San Antonio after several years absent and immediately reserved a table at La Fonda on Main, which had always been a favorite. The place looked the same but wasn't very crowded on a week night. We orders some of our favorite dishes such as spinach enchiladas. Alas, it still looked the same also, but the flavors were... We were staying in downtown San Antonio and several people recommended making the drive (15 minutes) to La Fonda. It was well worth it. The service was quick and easy, the menu had a many unique items on it and it was delicious. I had the "New No.7" which was a chalupa and a beef enchilada. All of the ingredients... More

My husband and I stopped in here for brunch on our way out of town. We had been here before but only for lunch or dinner. The brunch was FABULOUS! I always get migas and these were absolutely some of the best I'd ever had. The dish included tenderloin steak that was to die for!! Delicious and a huge plateful.... More

The food was very good, the restaurant was beautiful and the drinks at the bar were very good. We had just driven in town that day after 17 straight house. Our party of 14 wanted 4:30 reservations, but after calling we were told we must come at 4:15. We came a few minutes early, thinking it was going to be... More

The food was great!! We tried the botana platter, the Old N°7 and the Parri Pollo. The only dissapointing thing was when we walked into the restaurant the hostess was not too nice to us she didn't greeted us happy and when other customers walked in she was greeting them very differently than the way she treated us. Other than... More

My wife, 7 year-old grandson, and I ate brunch at La Fonda last Sunday. Wow! It was fantastic. We chose a shaded table outside under a sprawling oak. I could not pass up eggs Benedict with duck confit, a new version of eggs Benedict for me. Very tastey, artfully plated. My wife thoroughly enjoyed an omelet Vera Cruz which included... More

While visiting in the Texas Hill Country we wanted to eat some really upscale Mexican food in San Antonio. Good friends had recommended La Fonda on N. Main Street. We made reservations on Open Table. Arriving just before 6 PM, they were not crowded at all, but quickly began to fill and they were essentially full inside before we left,... More

I am not sure what all the great reviews are for. Yes, this is a lovely Mexican Restaurant. It may have a great courtyard and the inside is clean and inviting. The food on the other hand is boring. I had the most bland enchiladas Verde I have ever eaten. The chicken had no seasoning and seemed as if it... More

After a couple of days eating at typical downtown restaurants we stumbled upon this true oasis. I had the tacos de pascado. I was concerned the chef would be heavy handed with the Chipotle mayo to mask the fish but it was a very nice balance. My friend finished with a pumpkin flan that he was extremely pleased with. My...
