Description: Whether dining in the cozy interior or on the outdoor villa-style terrace...
Whether dining in the cozy interior or on the outdoor villa-style terrace overlooking the San Antonio River, exquisite food and impeccable service are mainstays of the Fig Tree Restaurant. Crisp linens drape tables set with fine china and sparkling crystal in elegant yet homey surroundings.Delicate, highly composed dishes such as Tournedos Rossini with Perigourdine Sauce, Seared Nori Tempura Yellow Fin Tuna and Cold Water Australian Lobster with Drawn Butter are menu stand-outs. Tableside flamed desserts include Bananas Foster over Vanilla Ice Cream and traditional Baked Alaska.Historically referred to as the Gray-Guilbeau House, the building is named for James Gray and French consul Francois Guilbeau who bought the house from Gray in 1853. The house saw many owners, including the Henshaw family, and was the last of the private dwellings in La Villita. The Phelps family purchased the home in December of 1970 as their personal residence. Visitors to the home were enthralled with its historical significance and ambiance. Prompted by this the family voted to share the house with all, and the Fig Tree Restaurant was born.Mr. and Mrs. Frank Phelps opened the Fig Tree Restaurant on March 17, 1971, and the family has continuously operated the restaurant ever since. We sincerely hope you enjoy this old home and its surroundings as much as those who have lived and dined here in the past.Around the corner from the Hilton Hotel, next to Little Rhein Steak House

Pretty spot on the River Walk

The food was quite tasty, the service very pleasant, and the wine list well rounded. Be sure to make a reservation as this is a popular River Walk view.

We had a group of 8 for dinner. We were in town for a convention, and all of our group are in the hospitality field. It was simply a great experience. The menu was not overly large, but each item was well prepared from high quality ingredients. We had a little of everything; escargot, beet salad, seared scallops, beef wellington,... More

I went to this restaurant twice. I appreciated both fish and beef cooked carefully with high quality ingredients. I enjoyed the fillet mignon, the crab cake and the key lime and rasperry. On the other hand the drum fish on a bed of potatoes was a bit dull. Careful service and good wine by the glass.

We arrived hungry and around 9:30PM 2-14 and the girl looked at us up and down and said do you have a reservation? The restaurant was freaking empty so I know they were not packed. I am thinking she did not like our comfortable attire shorts and t-shirts. I don't know if I want to try this place out in... More

I appreciate your comment. I do apologize for your first experience with our restaurant. Valentine's Day is a tough day to walk in as we were sold out the entire evening and had to turn away many other walk in guests. We had closed our restaurant to reservation dining only that day. As you had walked in 30 minutes to... More

We had a fantastic dinner and evening at the Fig Tree. Although somewhat cozy, the service and the menu were first-rate! Although it was a cold evening and we couldn't sit outside, we were very comfortable in the downstairs dining room.

We first ate at the Fig Tree in 1975 (and more than a few times after that date)--it was a great meal then, and little has changed in the 30 some years! That should say a lot! We were here recently for a special function. The food and service made it even more special. The downtown location is almost impossible... More

When visiting San Antonio, we always try to eat here. Last time, it was warmer weather in October, and we had a lovely experience outdoors; but this time, we encountered very cool weather, so we dined inside. We ate early so it was not crowded and we had a nice table by the window. Our server was Mike and he... More

We ate at the highest rated restaurants on the Riverwalk and this was the best. It is expensive, but the food is superb, the setting is beautiful, and the service is excellent.

We picked the restaurant as a last minute birthday get away. The food and service were amazing. We recommend reservations as we were lucky they had availability.

We searched for romantic dining on the Riverwalk and decided after reading reviews to make a reservation for our anniversary date. We were seated outside on the balcony overlooking the Riverwalk and it was breathtaking. Our waiter Adam was wonderful. From helping us decide on our entrees to refilling our wine glasses, we felt like top priority. The Beef Wellington... More
