Was working temporarily in San Antonio, and walked in for lunch with 3 coworkers, 2 of us vegetarian, and we decided there weren't enough options to make a decent meal, so we went elsewhere, but a day and a half later I had a wonderful time on the back porch, at night, with a key lime margarita at $12 US... The "Esquire Tavern" is one of those places in San Antonio that everyone recommends to visitors. And... I have to admit so have I. The reason is, it's a great bar, with some seriously solid food (not your lame bar burger), it's right on the river walk, and it's got some great history. Sure it's a bar that fits into... More

While the Esquire Tavern is technically "on" the Riverwalk, it is really easy to miss. Down at one of the less traveled ends, it's marked only by a tall staircase and a small unlit sign noting they have several local beers on tap. I'd walked by it for a few days, frankly, until I realized almost none of the other... More

We were vacationing in San Antonio for 2 days. We wanted something close to the hotel to eat and found this place. I wish there was a place like this at home. When you walk in you feel like you're going back in time to the 20s and that's a good thing. Each bartender explained each drink that was on... More

Located in a more quiet area of the Riverwalk (in proximity to the Main Plaza). It is nicely and stileshly refurbished and has a distinctive ambience. Especially snug is the balcony, overlooking the River Walk. Very tasty burgers and salads are served.

Esquire tavern was literally 100 times better than anything on the river walk ! I ate at multiple places on the river and was not impressed at all so I looked on yelp and found this place. It has a great vibe on the inside...dark,lounge feel. The food was excellent. I had the short rib empanadas which were amazing! The... More

It is upstairs with not a big storefront on the RW. Oldest Tavern on he RW from 1933. We almost didn't go because it as a little walk up the back fire escape. But we are glad we did! We had the most fantastic Bacon Cheeseburger ever and delicious Short Rib Empanadas. My wife said it was the BEST burger... More

We did not have a meal, but our beverages were excellent and the band was amazing. They were just ending for the night, but we talked them into playing one more song and the one guitar player sat down at our table, strummed his guitar and sang a beautiful song for us. The three band members took time to stay... More

went on a Friday. Not very packed tried to order a drink from the bartender just standing around. He said he doesn't serve to people who walk up to the bar. Went down to the next section and ordered a neat scotch. They came back and said they were out of that particular scotch. Ordered another one, never received that... More
