In four days we ate here 3 times! It's that reliable, different, and delicious. (It's too bad that they're not open for breakfast; we'd probably have eaten there again.) While other places on the Riverwalk are glorified Chiles or the like, Esquire stands out. The menu is pub food with a twist and a lean towards Mexican. The food is... More

The bar is gorgeous, and very popular. It was packed the night I went - possibly because of the torrential downpour outside, but more likely for the excellent food and lovely craft cocktails. I really enjoyed watching the bartenders in action while waiting for a table. I had the aforementioned beets (OMG, you guys...they were awesome!) and the chicken mole,... More

My wife and I went in for a steak and a cocktail. The steak they have was a rib eye. It was large and cooked perfectly and was spiced nicely. My wife and I split the steak and the waiter brought an extra full sized plate but no extra steak knife. The cocktails where made correctly as well. What got me... More

Came here after one too many drinks at Acenar and before a comedy show at LOL rivercenter location. The food was amazing and the service was good too. I had come here once before with girl friends and the staff was not nearly as attentive. They redeemed themselves.

This tavern dates from about 1933 and is accessible from the street and the river walkway. It is, when in full swing, very noisy and popular with younger people and especially students. There are moves all along the length of one long wall as well as and other eating/drinking area. We went back there twice because we enjoyed the atmosphere,... More

Entering this place is like visiting another world. It is dark and cosy and very popular, if the crowd at our visit was any indication. If you want a romantic date night this is a great place to go. It feels special. I was there with a big crowd. They were able to accommodate us and were great about the... More

Might be my new favorite bar, kind of an oasis of authenticity among the schlocky River Walk joints. Great beer selection, more limited wine choices, serious cocktails. My daughter and I split a burger and had the chili salt fries, which I could eat every day of my life. Would definitely go back.

If you are young and have a group of friends looking for a place to have a drink, this would be just fine. If you are hungry, go elsewhere. If you are older, the noise level is excruciating, the food borders on inedible and the service is almost non existent. We were drawn in by the historic aspect of the... More

Stopped in for a few drinks bar hopping along the river walk. Coolest place we were in. Drinks were great, and bartender/mixoligist was on top of it. Very cool old/long bar. Menu looked interesting too. I would return on a return visit to San Antonio.

Old saloon style place with good beer and food, excellent bar staff who are interested in what they do and the local area I think we spoke to Steve. We called in for lunch and had a great pulled pork sandwich and a turkey club.
