Drinks in an Old Favorite

Hey, its the oldest bar on the Riverwalk! My wife and I enjoyed the patio seating over the river and our martini's while people watching. That said, our drinks were served in prohibition-style glasses better suited for champagne in the 1920's. Both measured up to one drink normally served in other... read more

Took a walk from the hotel and found an interesting spot to grab a bite. I can imagine it gets a little dark at night with the retro old bulb lighting, but some prefer that. Deviled eggs with pink peppercorn, deep fried corn on the cob and a chili relleno. Great draft selections to pair. We couldn't complain. Cool fact:... More

Our group of 7 rented a van and made a day trip to the San Antonio river walk during a four day business trip to Austin. Feeling parched at the time of our arrival, we discovered the Esquire Tavern by happenstance. Not sure if we wanted to eat lunch there, we decided to at least get some cold beers and... More

I arrived in San Antonio a couple of hours before and needed a late lunch. I was told lots of places by the riverside would still be open at 3pm on a Sunday. This place just looked a little quirky, and what a find. Great jazz being played live in the restaurant got me in a really good mood, and... More

We ate at the Esquire Tavern after reading a positive review about them on-line. When we walked into the place, it was REALLY dark - darker than outside at 8:00 p.m. When the host seated us, he even had to use his tablet to light up the area so he could wipe off the seat - so it wasn't just... This place has a very old tavern environment, and we did not expect anything more than the standard burgers and pasta type of fare to be offered - but we were treated to some wonderful food in there. What appeared to be a tad abnormal on the menu choices turned out to be very creative dishes indeed :) Stop into... More

We ate here twice during our stay on the SA River Walk. The fries are very tasty. All the sauces are made there and that includes the ketchup and mustard. We had an issue with our server who seemed disinterested in his only table, us, and more interested in chatting with the other workers. We literally had to get up... More
