We are a local dive bar that secretly has class. Great food, great service all served in a very casual atmosphere with absolutely no pretense. We're a little place with a big heart. The Shanty has been serving the Good People of Salem for 30 years and is a local institution. We welcome anyone who wants to come and relax with us. This is one place where you can let your freak flag fly. Our patio allows well-behaved dogs, we even have a doggie menu. Don't worry about bringing water bowls, we've got some.

So this place is tiny, has a one person bathroom, seems pretty divey and is a local hangout. It is extremely busy in peak season (October). It's "known" for having rude staff (and they claim this themselves), but here's the thing. I love this place and you will be missing out if you don't stop in. The staff is actually... More

we tried this place after seeing it on diners drive ins and dives and were definitely not disappointed. It is definitely a dive, the clientele definitely not the safest looking crowd around the bar but our server greeted us with a warm hello and smile. I had the lobstertini which was slightly above average and we each had the different... More

Known for their lobster rolls. In fact they are the place I first ever tried one at. They're good. Don't get me wrong. Just need to work on staff. They seemed pretty much blasé about us being there and I've gone multiple times over the past 7 years. Guys, just put a little more kindness and seem to care that... More

Lobster rolls with butter only. Creative drink specials. Ask for pickle on the side as it soaked into the bread and messed with the best lobster roll... Great prices

A small shanty, with friendly staff. I had a veggie burger with portabello mushroom and pickled beets. My husband had a burger with egg and bacon! the pickles that came with dinner were delicious! Definitely a revisit on next trip!!

We stopped in at the Lobster Shanty for lunch on Halloween and the servers did not disappoint. Dressed as the casts of Peter Pan, our bartenders were Tinker Bell and Captain Hook. They we're friendly and quick with our drinks and food order. The food was delicious - one of the best lobster rolls I had on my "New England... More

My friends and I sat on the patio (very nice!) and did our best to sample a variety of items from the menu. The beer was cold and everything we ordered was delicious. We had both kinds of Lobster rolls and found them both to be equally good and filling, definitely enough to call a lunch on its own. Our... More

I had seen this restaurant on Triple D and was stopping into town for one night. My two girlfriends and I walked the pedestrian mall trying to find it in the rain!! When we got there it was late and you could tell it was locals at the bar, we were the only table for dinner, late on a Thursday... More

Be sure that when you go to Salem you eat at the Lobster Shanty. We understood there would be long lines, but there weren't in early October. Just loved the fun atmosphere. It's located right on the harbor, great view!!! I had the lobster roll and it was the best one I had in the entire NE area. My friend... More
