We are a local dive bar that secretly has class. Great food, great service all served in a very casual atmosphere with absolutely no pretense. We're a little place with a big heart. The Shanty has been serving the Good People of Salem for 30 years and is a local institution. We welcome anyone who wants to come and relax with us. This is one place where you can let your freak flag fly. Our patio allows well-behaved dogs, we even have a doggie menu. Don't worry about bringing water bowls, we've got some.

Excellent Seafood and fast service!

On a visit to Salem, Massachusetts our family ate at The Lobster Shanty. The service was extremely good and our server was cheerful and friendly. We all tried different dishes as a way to sample their seafood. Coming from the coastal island in Georgia we know good seafood. The food (fish, scallops... read more

Heard of the Lobster Shanty from watching Triple-D. Definitely a local spot, which we like the best. Lobster-Tini's are as advertised, awesome. The Lobster rolls are huge and delicious. Worth looking for this spot, great casual spot for lunch or dinner or just drinks.

The food was good, the seating area was crowded because it is quite small, and the staff must have been overworked because the only people in our group that paid in cash received substantially less change back than what was due... they corrected quickly without question, but it was concerning.

I happened to be in the historic town of Salem, Ma. mid April of 2015 and decided to look up what restaurants Guy Fieri had been to; I have learned to trust his opinion regarding out-of-the-way joints and thought I would see where he had been in the areas. My search of FlavortownUSA.com led me to The Lobster Shanty, pretty... More

We stopped in here for a birthday dinner before a ghost tour. It was about six o'clock and they were out of the lobster and they have no desserts. No desserts. I had the pickle martini. Not that is was made poorly , just not for me. We had to get to the tour at 8 and still no food.... More

So this place is tiny, has a one person bathroom, seems pretty divey and is a local hangout. It is extremely busy in peak season (October). It's "known" for having rude staff (and they claim this themselves), but here's the thing. I love this place and you will be missing out if you don't stop in. The staff is actually... More

we tried this place after seeing it on diners drive ins and dives and were definitely not disappointed. It is definitely a dive, the clientele definitely not the safest looking crowd around the bar but our server greeted us with a warm hello and smile. I had the lobstertini which was slightly above average and we each had the different... More

Known for their lobster rolls. In fact they are the place I first ever tried one at. They're good. Don't get me wrong. Just need to work on staff. They seemed pretty much blasé about us being there and I've gone multiple times over the past 7 years. Guys, just put a little more kindness and seem to care that... More
