Went to A&J Artisian Bakers on the recommendation of a store clerk in Marblehead. We decided to stop for breakfast treats. It was a little difficult to find but well worth the effort and is close to the majority of the Salem Witch sites. Staff was friendly and patient as we struggled to decide from the many options. Wonderful bread and pastries the way your grandmother might have made them if she and your grandfather ran a French Bakery.

The sticky buns- a must. Quick service. The baked goods are the real deal. Cheese Danish was delish, and the cookies are very rich! Would definitely recommend as part of the Salem experience.

The sourdough bread here is excellent! We also had a scone, a cream filled strawberry pastry and one of the best sticky buns I have ever had!! All freshly made with the freshest local ingredients. Definitely worth it to visit here!

As a local, I go here often, for baguettes, pain a levain, muffins, scones and more. It's the real deal. Not cheap, but high quality, consistently. A real treasure for Salem. Usually I do take-out, as the seating area is a bit small and cramped. But some folks love that about it too!

We always stop at A & J when in Salem and often journey to Salem just to go there. A & J offers a variety of bake products and judged by the crowd it appeals to everyone. I love to toast in the AM and MUST have artisanal breads with my entrees. A & J satisfies both demands. Their Walnut... More

I love A & J because they pride themselves on unprocessed, homemade baked goods and bread - which is a rare thing in this time. This place also reminds me a... More

We make it a point to stop at this bakery every time we are in town. We love it! Great coffee, great pastries, great sandwiches. Go early, by 9am the line is to the door (it moves quickly though).

I was lucky enough to live in Salem a few years back and went to A&J often but have since moved and I still drive to A&J from Wakefield as often as I can. They have the best pastry and bread in the North Shore and the best Iced Latte's ever. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and they... More
