This restaurant in the old infamous Salem Jail House is now closed down. It has been replaced by a burger and beer joint. Upstairs in the building are condos. The preserved cell on the first floor is open to the public and worth visiting.

Have lunch in a former jail? Why not. A fun location but I don't feel the food overall is that great. Burgers are fine. Menu is a little offbeat.

The establishment was clean and nicely decorated with reminders of it's days as a jailhouse. The service and food was just as good. Been there a couple times...and we will return.

We were there on October 14, 2013. The restaurant was closed. Note in window said A&B Burgers opening in November.

Great food, great value. Service was excellent. The lunch menu was a bit sparse (not much to choose from) but other than that it was great.

We ate at The Great Escape after a recommendation from Jeff (of Bewitched in Salem) who educated us on the history of the jail. I ordered the pumpkin soup, scallops over risotto, and crème brulee. My friend ordered stuffed salmon and we were very pleased. We had great service and the atmosphere was fun!

This was our first time at this restaurant and found the service, food & decor wonderful! Food was reasonably priced. Our server was a fountain of knowledge when it came to the history of this restaurant. It used to be the Salem jail up until the Sixties. Now it's a restaurant. We got a chance to wander around the place,... More

The food and service were excellent! The decor of the old jail was intriguing. Ask about the history - no running water even into 1990. Very good value for the price. Best cesar salad and bruschietta I ever ate. Save room for desert!

This restaurant is in an refurbished county jail. Most of the original flooring and walls remain and some jail cell bars making it a little dark. We went on a fall afternoon and there was only one other party eating The service was good. Parking out front was limited to 3 spaces and no handicapped parking. I'm not sure where... More
