Prototypical Cafe

This is what you want in a cafe. European feel, in the "kids" way, rather than the elegant. Good beer selection, nice sandwiches, and they've snuck some Czech bar classics (pickled sausage and nakladany hermelin....like marinated brie) on to the menu. We literally always pop in when in Salem.

We stopped by Gulu-Gulu Cafe today for iced tea and a snack, sat outside and had a thoroughly delightful time. Service was quick and attentive. Yoghurt with fruit, and iced tea were very good. Outside seating area was very pleasant and convivial. Prices were reasonable. Nicest of the coffee shops we've found in Salem so far.

Great ambiance, food and service! We even came back later on to try more drinks / specialty beers. A must do in Salem!

Stopped in twice for drinks. Great location. Friendly and fabulous staff! Sat outside, quite lovely. The cocktails are on point and my husband reccomends the gingerbeer! Did not eat but the meals we saw coming to other tables looked beautiful!

Being in my 30s I did feel a bit old for this place, but I do enjoy a good crepe and a glass of Absinthe. The service was fair and the savory crepe was good, not great. The sweet crepe was better. We did visit twice because Absinthe is hard to find, even though we were the only ones not... More

My wife and I walked to Gulu-Gulu for lunch after visiting the Peabody Essex Museum nearby. She had moussaka, and I had a savory crepe with ham, cheese and other goodies. The menu listed a salad with the former but not the latter, so I also ordered a salad. A small salad did come with the crepe, so we took... More

I do. It has delicious food that I could eat for hours but it can't seem to decide if it wants to be a cafe/coffee shop or a happening joint. Thus I'm never quite sure if I can park myself there for a few hours to do work or not. Also, the acoustics are atrocious so that as soon as... More

Dear leaton01, Thank you for your candid review! You are absolutely welcome to stay as long as you like. We have many guests who work here for hours when all they've bought is a cup of tea (for example). If we have a line out the door, we may ask guests if they'd be willing to share their table, but...
