Interesting premise but not as delicious as Cajun food could be. Seems like something has gotten lost in the translation. Heavy on fried dishes, the food just didn't sparkle. A catfish po boy was okay, chicken was also okay. Drinks weren't anything unusally good . There's nothing really wrong about the Bayou, but there's nothing really outstanding either.

Definitely the cooking of the Parishes of Louisiana… southern inspired but more of the cajun. Good food… The frog legs are awesome… seasoned perfectly… for the westchester crowd the po boys are quite good.. so you do not have to go into the city for a decent po boy. The best dish is by far the colored greens… they are... More

The Bayou is a perfect place for a comfortable and casual family gathering. Recently attended a surprise 65th birthday there that was very enjoyable. It was my first time having Creole food and enjoyed the flavorful cuisine. And the service was very good. Location is also very convenient and on a quaint part of Mt. Vernon.

This neighborhood spot is always consistent with their food. My favorite is the Oysters Poor Boy sandwich. Not fancy but hardy and tasty meals. Meals are priced well.

Having lived in NOLA I'm spoiled for the real deal. The crawfish étouffée was a little tough What's with the sugar in the collard greens?! I'd cook them a little longer so they're a little more tender, omit the sugar, add a little seasoning. Will try the muffuletta next time.

It's been a while since I was here, so I decided to grab lunch here on a Saturday afternoon with some friends. I have always liked this place and like the food here. One of my favorite dishes is the jumbalaya, which is full of flavor and tastes great with an Abita.

If you like live music on the weekends (and sometimes on a weeknight) and traditional Louisiana food, then this is the place for you. If you're looking for a place to talk, perhaps not. The southern-fried kickin' chicken with smashed potatoes is delicious. The marinated skirt steak salad is also terrific, especially with a big slab of cornbread. YUM.

Recently, we had a visitor from England and decided to walk across the street to the Bayou instead of eating in. We have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. This time though we really lucked out. All the local area blues musicians were arriving for an evening jam session. Talk about characters, also probably the best harmonica... More

Been to the Bayou several times now in my travels to the area. I am a chicken wing lover and if you love wings without needing them to be dripping and super hot, definitely try the voodoo wings. Probably my favorite wings ever. I have had the regular fried chicken, the smothered fried chicken, the ribs, and the meatloaf. All... More
