We went to this place at the recommendation of friends. Food was terrific and the service was top drawer. The tamale trio was excellent but the burritos were a little pedestrian.

Sometimes establishments described as "the oldest . . .", "run by the same family for x years" can just be living on past glories. Any such misgivings I may have had about El Charro were dispelled with my first taste of their salsa! Good food, good atmosphere & pleasant servers - we enjoyed our first visit so much that we... We had heard that El Charro was THE place to get good Mexican food in Tucson. But go to the original cafe downtown. Service was snail slow. Orders were not correct. Food was just average, Margarita's were weak ? watered down. I would not go back.

We met some friends for lunch, they drove from Scottsdale and we drove from Cochise County to meet at this historic restaurant established in 1922. El Charro is the nation’s oldest Mexican restaurant in continuous operation by the same family and housed in their original home built in 1896. The restaurant was very crowded inside so we opted for the... More

A friend from the Tucson area took us to El Charro for lunch. He had been bragging about this being his favorite mexican restaurant in the Tucson area and wanted to get our opinion while we were visiting him. We have to agree that the food is very good, the decor and ambience at the original cafe is wonderful, and... More

El Charro has been operating in Tucson for nearly 100 years. It is very popular with locals and tourists. I like to go for the atmosphere and location. The outdoor courtyard is very lovely much of the year. The food is very good, but not better than other authentic Mexican Tucson restaurants. The menu is more varied than most.

Probably some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. And I've had a lot. The green salsa is unique and out of this world. We split the Casa Sena meat plate. At first is wasn't sure about the meat - thought it might be dry. But put it on homemade flour tortillas with red or green salsa, fresh... More

Several friends suggested this restaurant when I told them I would be in Tucson, so we went there today for lunch. During the day, you have to pay a meter, but not a big deal! When we walked in the door, there was nobody to seat us....a little confusing. Finally, we were seated, and no more problems. The waiter (Christian)was... More

We always try to find a new Mexican restaurant where ever we travel. Rio Rio in San Antonio & El Mezcal in Marshfield Wi are great but this place is the best yet. Only in town 4 days and we went twice! Staff are all extremely pleasant.

We've enjoyed their food for decades so our last visit was very disappointing. We had lunch and decided to order the Pollo El Charro burro which is chicken and vegetables with white sauce. The chicken was delicious, but the white flour tortilla was so anemic and dry it was tasteless. I ordered it enchilada style, but there just wasn't enough... More
