High Expectations

We dined with 4 friends after hearing El Charro invented the chimichanga, we had high expectations. We were delighted that the hype was true. We had a pitcher of their house margaritas and the guacamole. All very good. For the main dish various different order, everyone had nothing but good things... read more

We had a very positive visit on an evening a couple of weeks ago so quickly took visitors back for lunch two days later. Not one out of our four orders arrived as ordered. Mine was by far the best----I think it was termed a shrimp cheviche salad with tortilla soup. I mentioned that I hadn't received the soup and... More

We went for lunch and shared the 2 original beef tacos and the gucamole and were plenty full. The beef taco truly was different than any other I've had and the quality was amazing. The ambience on the outer area was quirky and inviting. The indoor area was just as inviting but more muted. The Classic margarita was delicious. As... More

We ate there 4 days out of our 7 day stay. My wife liked the chimicungas. I loved the Pescado Tropical and Original Taco.

Stopped for lunch as we toured the city. The Mexican food here is second to none. El Charro is the only place In the US that is allowed to dry their beef in cages on the roof of the restaurant. A great taste and texture! The staff is welcoming and very good! Wish we lived closer to enjoy again!

What a great experience! El Charo has been here since 1922 and seems to be an institution for both locals and tourists. Great Mexican food, atmosphere and service. We will make it a habit to eat here every time we are in Tucson.

When we aked friends in Tucson to recommend a mexican restuant that did not hesitate to name El Charro. Our meal was excellent although the place is busy because of its location in the historic district. Make a reservation.

The margaritas are to die for, but I was more used to what I considered to be more traditional Mexican food. However, I was in the minority, because the other 3 family members just raved about the food. I loved the decor. It was old and quaint to me, and the service was exceptional.
