The ambiance felt like that of a Mexican inspired Bennigan's. There was dark wood all around. Large replicas of memorabilia were hung on the walls that appeared to date back to the early days of the restaurant. While we were told this was one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. Perhaps we made poor choices or perhaps they... More

Went later in the evening after a number of meetings - enjoyed the guacamole, the Margarita's and especially the Fish Tacos. Well prepared - grilled fish, nice sauce and tender and moist. Our server was efficient and helpful. I would return in a heart beat.

At one time these guys had some of the best carne seca in town ...But no more......The decor is still funky and cool and the service efficient but the food was nothing like I remember it...The famous carne seca, once one of the premier plates is now a joke....As they used to say" Where's the beef?" I literally had to... More

Oldest family owned Mexican food restaurant in the United States. Marcus is one of the brothers who owns the restaurant and knows how to treat people. Ask him to suggest a tequila. The patio is sweet. Causal and delicious

We had read gret things about El Charro and visited there the first Sunday in October for lunch. Ample seating so we were seated right away but at a table next to the door where the servers came through with drink orders. Chips and salsa were sub-par. We ordered the carne seca, which they are know for and split an... More

Getting a meal like this for $9.95 surprised me. El Charro has a great reputation, and their original location in the El Presidio neighborhood -- which also includes the excellent Tucson Museum of Art -- made me wonder whether I'd be paying a premium. (There are other El Charro locations in Tucson. I had an delicious dinner at a couple... More

Two words: Carne Seca. When my kids were at UofA, this was always my favorite. On this return trip to Tucson I let others know this is where I wanted to dine. All of the food is really delicious, but - oh my - the Carne Seca! The drinks are good too and you can even order by the pitcher.... More

El Charro is a Tucson institution. It's southwestern & mexican dishes are tasty and its margaritas outstanding. We've been coming to the original and our neighborhood El Charro twin for as long as we've been coming to Tucson. Now that we live here, it's one of our regular spots. While the suburban versions are more modern, the food and drink... More

We took Minneapolis visitors to the original El Charro. The food was fantastic. We ate outside and weather was great but the crowd was noisy. The service staff was busy focusing on people that were partying. We recommend eating indoors.

Try their Carne Seca - a deliciously grande ½ pound portion of World Famous Carne Seca. After being dried in the Sonoran desert sun, the marinated lean Angus beef is shredded & grilled with green chile, tomato & onions and features guacamole and Pico de Charro. If you are in downtown Tucson's historic El Presidio, take the time to drop... More
