I love Mexican food. Given the choice, I will pick it over steak, ice cream or any other of the favorites. However, after this week's meal at El Charro in Tucson, AZ, I have had my fill of Mexican food for a while. Part of a party of 8, we were seated almost immediately at this local restaurant recommended by... more

we arrived told we had to wait 20 min for a table for 2 it ended up being 50 minutes!!!! Got seated and waited another 20 min for chips/salsa. Food arrived in a timely manner however the famous steak taco was like a piece of beef jerky sandwiched in a greasy taco shell (couldn't even eat it!). Complained to the... more

El Charro is the oldest restaurant in Tucson. It's in the heart of downtown and is an amazing place to just hang out and listen to some great Mariachi music! The food is amazing...doesn't matter what you order. Just remember to get a margarita to go with. Another must if you're a newbie to Tucson. more

This used to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in Tucson. Now much of their food is mass produced at a commissary and shipped to each of their restaurants. The quality has greatly diminished. The vegetarian rice tastes like Uncle Ben's. The flat enchilladas are horrible. The carne seca is still a winner. My husband and I were eating... more

The food was good but a little pricey for what you get. The margaritas are definetly over priced but in line with other Tucson restaurants. The atomosphere is outstanding, steeped in tradition. Now that I've seen it, I wouldn't go back a second time. more

My favorite carne seca. They do it the original way, marinated, then dried in the Tucson sun. The carne seca, soft tacos may be the best tacos in Tucson or anywhere, for that matter. more

Good Mexican food on a quiet side street near downtown Tucson. I try to go here on every trip to Tucson. Decent full service staff. Their specialty Carne Seca is worth a try because you don't get it every day but their full menu has many good options in a town that doesn't have too many culinary highlights. Go here,... more

We had dinner Saturday 08/29 our first night in Tuscon area. Our friend from Phoenix drove down to meet us and suggested the original downtown location as a Tucson classic. Our server wasn't very attentive, but another person (hostess, assistant, manager?) came by to refill waters and inquire of our satisfaction so overall we were taken care of. I love... more

I took some friends visiting from France here and we all had a wonderful meal - as usual. I cannot recall ever having a less than great experience at any of the El Charro locations in Tucson. My husband and I love them so much, we had our wedding rehearsal dinner here and everyone from out of town was fell... more
