We just came back from one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, El Charro. It is an historic restaurant and is a should be on every visitor's list. As always the food was great and the service was perfect. During the summer months the restaurant offers several great meals for $5.00, although that is not what we chose to eat this... More

El Charro is always my first stop, directly from the airport. Honest Mexican food with decor and charm that let you know that you're in Tucson. You can't make a bad menu choice.

I was looking for good tacos and got what I came for - with a little updated sauce. There were chips and salsa non-stop before the meal, and everyone else was satisfied. One companion had a veggie enchilada plate she raved about, and the rest had the usual chimichangas. The portions were just right - no leftovers, and no hungry... More

This is an historic restaurant in Tucson - the original location. Be sure to choose this one. We went on the Friday before Father's Day. Even at 6 pm there was a wait. We were seated in the center room by the kitchen door. Therefore there was a lot of activity in a small room. Plus the room was a... More

Food was excellent, beans were best I ever had. Had carne seca burro with enchilada sauce no top. Great. Wife had salad very nice.

My daughter took me here for a spur of the moment lunch. It's a charming old house with great atmosphere. We ordered the "melted cheese" appetizer and it was great! All the food was great and we still had enough left over for lunch the next day!

Ate dinner on a Wednesday night. Main dining section was full, so were seated in a dining area wight the bar. There was outdoor seating available, too. Waitstaff was polite and helpful. My party chose items from the Specials menu ($5.00 each): Sonora Dog, Carnitas, and seafood tacos. All were good. Carnitas were a bit dry, but I think they... More

The atmosphere is super casual, even noisy, but that's what to expect in a family restaurant. The food is quite unlike any Mexican food we've eaten (we're New Englanders but have lived in CO and traveled a lot throughout So. CA and the SW U.S. ) -- perhaps because it lives up its reputation as 'authentic'. Not the very best... More

My husband was pleased with his choice - Enchiladas Banderas (a trio of enchiladas, including their 'famous' carne seca, although he said the carne seca was his least favorite). I was very disappointed with my selection (Carlotta's Chicken Mole Enchiladas). The chicken was really dry and the mole was tasteless. Their salsa was quite tasty & had a bite which... More

A great local favorite. The historic house is adorable and lively. The patio is fun. I can't wait to visit in the fall and sit outside. The food was unbelievable. We also tried the house margarita. Very fresh, not a lame mix like most places. Yummy and fresh food, not super greasy. We will be back!
