My wife and I stopped in for dinner on the Tuesday night between Christmas and New Years during a trip to visit family. we've always loved this restaurant and again, it did not disappoint. Excellent, friendly wait staff, very good menu, good pricing and valet parking on site makes for a great experience. The restaurant is as adept at two... More

Beautiful, old fashioned atmosphere where people will still take a martini lunch. Pink dining room with white linens and well-dressed servers. Menu is extensive and remarkable selection even at lunch. The food is delicious in almost every way, with generous servings and complete courses (most served with soup and dessert). Attentive local service---what it might lack in polish it makes... More

When I was a kid, my Mom would take my sister and I to the Old Canteen for special occasions. It was consistently excellent and always a favorite. It's nice to know that some places never change. Today, the Old Canteen is still known for its excellent food and traditional ambiance and a visit there brings back great memories.

This was our first visit to The Old Canteen, it having been recommended by a friend who had previously lived in Providence for many years, and whose relatives still reside in the area. This is one of the old favorites in the Federal Hill section of Providence whose reputation as one of the better ristorantes in the area is still... More

After our experience with Mumus my friend decided it would be easier to eat in an Italian restaurant. We passed Camille's as too high standard and went into the Old Canteen. The menu and the explanations from the waiter contained the sort of language the Daleks spoke. No description used one word where five would do. Goodness knows how you... More

Great place great food. Don't see it on the menu ask. The veal is especially good. Like going to your grandmother's house. A place where they know the regulars name

We went to the 'Old Canteen' this past weekend to celebrate my wife's very special birthday. This was our first visit but will not be our last. When we entered, we were pleased by the ambiance of the restaurant and the the old world charm that this gem provides. The pink walls, linen tablecloths and pink napkins made for a... More

Old School Italian - our first visit was on a Saturday night - it's a bit noisy and definitely not cool and trendy - but the food was amazing - we both enjoyed Osso Bucco accompanied by soup, antipasto, etc. The owner makes the rounds to welcome everyone - nice bottle of wine, great service - everything about the place...
