Five close friends and I had dinner last month at Al Forno's. I, a true foodie, was very excited. The meal started extremely well. I had a delicious appetizer of squash blossoms fritters stuffed with ricotta and spices. And one friend thoroughly enjoyed the brushetta. But my other friends had salads that were nothing to talk about. Next, I had... More

I can't really add to what many others have already said about the good food at Al Forno. And the service is almost always spot on as well. Still, a couple of things stood out recently that I thought worth sharing. First the price of desserts were nearly all in the low to mid-teens and the dessert shared by the... More

The restaurant is known for its pizza and it did not disappoint. The pizza was totally outstanding - probably the best anywhere. The rest of the meal was equally good and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. And, oh, don't miss out on the squash blossoms. The service matched the food and Kate was fantastic. The entire staff is extremely accommodating... More

I first read about AlForno in a magazine 20 years ago and have wanted to visit ever since. How great not to be disappointed! The Mister and I chose a Margareta pizza as an appetizer to test the water. YUM. Classic and perfect. Then a great Toss and Tumble (?) lasagna for him, meatballs and a chopped salad for me.... More

A group of us had dinner here for the first time. Food was delicious. Fish was fresh, pasta cooked to perfection, and the seasonal fruit tart we shared for dessert was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Service was very professional. Outdoor dining is a nice option too. We all enjoyed our dinner at Al Forno, followed by a... More

I try to visit Providence every year and never fail to include a dinner at Al Forno. It is my very favorite restaurant. There is nothing like their grilled pizza....fabulous. The food & service never let me down .

When I lived in Boston 18 years ago, driving to Providence was well worth the meal and dining experience every time. We went on a day trip from Boston as tourists last September after some time in Newport earlier in the day. After all these years, Al Forno did not disappoint. The only regret was not having more room to... More

When I first made a pilgrimage (1999) the food was spectacular and we came back for lunch the next day. Lunch is no longer served. However the latest visit was an expensive disappointment. The food was average, the attitude and the check weren't. Have standards of restaurants improved to the point that Al Forno is not exciting ? Or am... More

Some of the best Italian food I have ever had. Squash blossoms and meatball appetizers are musts. The rigatoni veal bolognese knocked our socks off. Nice atmosphere. Though a bit pricey, it was so darned good it was worth it. The only disappointment was our server Joe who was laconic.

AL Forno was simply fabulous. Get there early or you'll wait a while for a table. But, once you are sested, you'll see that it was worth the wait. The service was spot on - not at all over bearing, but wait staff appeared whenever we needed them. The pizza is outrageously good, as was the corn chowder, clams over... More
