Amazing. We were in Providence for a hockey tournament so was extremely happy when a fellow hockey mom made reservations for us at Al Forno. The unfortunate part was the only time they had available was 4:30, however I would have taken that over the waiting line we saw on the way out at 6:30/7:00. We had the spicy clams... More

For averaged sized people I say because if your over 5'5" and decide to wear heels, it can be a bit uncomfortable, so sit at the end of the table. Nice atmosphere but tables are close, overall food was average but pizza was amazing so I gave it a 4 rating. However, a bit pricey for value comparison. Probably first... More

Stopped on our way thru RI, at 5:30, the dining room full! Sat at bar, great bartender...good Gibson.... The zucchini flowers appetizer was terrific, light Ricotta filling and delicious tempora batter with Pomodoro sauce. The clams Al Forno were also wonderful. We shared the pepperoni pizza...the pepperoni was really delicious, but too much olive oil on the pizza crust..making the... More

When a restaurant gets praised in the food and travel press, it's sometimes tough to live up to the hype. But Al Forno was as special as we had hoped it would be. The service was friendly and efficient, but nicely paced. The famous pizzas -- we got the spicy Margherita pizza -- was very different than you usually find... More

What might otherwise be a better than average restaurant is diminished by many small faults. It starts with its address. On its web site, it is listed as being on South Main St. It is and there's a sign on the building but that's the Kitchen entrance. No guidance to go around two blocks to get to the the parking... We have been eating at Al Forno for years, for special occasions and 'just because.' Food has been hearty and creative. Service has been wonderful and atmosphere is bustling. Because they don't take reservations, being seated in a timely manner can sometimes be a challenge, especially later in the evening. Other than that, always a wonderful experience. And, finally, the... More

Long a famous place to eat, thanks to the owners' TV appearances and books. We needed to try it. It is small (intimate) has an interesting menu and the atmosphere is limited. However, the wait staff is excellent and extremely helpful and busy. The specialty, according to our waiter is the pizza. So we tried it. Very good thin crust... More

We have been taking the ride down to Providence 3-4 times a year for about 40 years and rarely have been disappointed. This latest visit was just prefect, as always. My wife and I shared a wood grilled pizza, one of 5 choices. She had veal bolognese pasta and I had the duck confit with cherries. Both were outstanding. One... More

Dined here with business group in private dining room. All of the food -- from pizza to pasta -- was outstanding. Service was excellent.

I'm almost certain even the tables and chairs probably taste amazing at Al Forno. There is nothing on their menu, that isn't so good, you're audibly moaning. You can't help yourself. You will embarrass yourself there. You just can't help yourself. They do not take reservations, so just show up, if there's a wait, WAIT, it's WORTH EVERYTHING! This is... More
